In an exciting development for the world of sports, Seibu Recreation Inc. has announced the launch of the Seibu Figure Skating Academy in Higashiyamato, Tokyo, set to open in April 2026. This initiative is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of elite skaters, aligning with the vision of producing athletes who can compete on the global stage.
The academy will leverage the successful history and resources of the Higashiyamato Ice Rink, enhancing its existing facilities to provide an environment where aspiring skaters can develop both technical skills and artistic expression. Experienced coaches, including those who have trained competitors at the international level, will lead the curriculum, ensuring that students receive high-level training that meets global standards.
Comprehensive Support and Off-Ice Training
In addition to on-ice training, the academy is set to collaborate with the ARMS Lions Orthopedic Clinic to offer comprehensive off-ice training programs. These specially designed courses will focus on various physical attributes crucial for figure skating, including core stability, injury prevention, speed, balance, and flexibility.
Off-Ice Training Details:
- - Tuesday Course: Core Training from 18:00 to 18:45 and 19:00 to 19:45.
- - Thursday Course: Flexibility and Conditioning from 18:30 to 19:30 and 19:45 to 20:45.
The off-ice training will be conducted at the BIGBOX Higashiyamato, emphasizing physical fitness and performance enhancement.
Diverse Class Offerings
The Seibu Figure Skating Academy will feature a variety of classes tailored to different skill levels:

B Class: For Levels 3 to 5.

C Class: Beginners to Level 2.

D Class: For complete beginners up to basic levels.
Class Fees
The academy will also provide several course options:
- - Casual Course: 66,000 yen/month for three on-ice practices and one off-ice session per week.
- - Basic Course: 99,000 yen/month for five on-ice practices and two off-ice sessions weekly.
- - Platinum Course: 132,000 yen/month for seven on-ice practices and two off-ice sessions weekly, including a dedicated locker.
- - D Class: 44,000 yen/month for three on-ice practices with no off-ice training.
There is an additional entrance fee of 18,000 yen.
New Instruction for Youth
The academy is proud to announce the appointment of new instructors, including renowned skater Naoki Shigematsu, a former world junior silver medalist, and Yuuta Onuma, who performs with Prince Ice World. Six instructors in total will lead the new courses designed to engage and develop young skaters, starting from age three.
