Current Copenhagen: A Showcase of Contemporary Danish Design
The
Current Copenhagen pop-up store showcases a unique interplay between
Danish design traditions and contemporary aesthetics at
SELECT by BAYCREW'S in
Toranomon Hills, Tokyo. Running from
August 19 to September 23, 2026, this initiative by
Baycrew's, a company renowned for its clothing, food, and lifestyle products through brands like
JOURNAL STANDARD and
IÉNA, seeks to highlight the craft and ethos of emerging designers and brands from Copenhagen.
A Fusion of Cultures
One of the notable highlights of this event is the unveiling of the
TSU-TSU lighting collection, a collaborative effort between designer
Shizuka Tatsuno and the Danish brand
MOEBE. This collection pays homage to the essence of materials, featuring a union of MOEBE's minimalist designs and the organic textures of traditional
Bizen pottery crafted in Okayama. Each piece is a unique creation, honoring the craftsmanship of Bizen, where no glazes are used, allowing for each item to reflect its own character formed through time and natural elements.
Noteworthy Collaborations
Aside from TSU-TSU, visitors can explore a host of exceptional products from various Danish brands that are redefining the design landscape.
FRAMA, known for its self-care collection as well as home fragrances, brings an unparalleled array of items that can only be experienced at this event. In addition to furniture items that are exclusive to this pop-up,
raawii features a prototype shelf designed by
Elwen Burlek, complete with the designer's signature on all three available units.
Special Features
Furthermore, specially created pieces by
SOUI and
KUFU are designed just for this event, adding a unique touch for attendees. The lightweight steel sculptures from
Moment exhibit the beauty of simplicity and fluidity through their intricate designs.
TAKT contributes a rare sofa that cannot be found anywhere else in Japan, along with a curated selection of Kvadrat cushions designed by
Raf Simons.
Artistic Expressions
KAZUKI, a Tokyo-born artist immersed in creativity since childhood, presents artworks inspired by Copenhagen’s ambiance. His pieces, specifically crafted for this pop-up, offer visitors a deeper connection to the themes of the event.
Venue and Collaboration
The
Current Copenhagen pop-up artfully combines various influences, fostering an environment where intricate design meets cultural narratives from both Denmark and Japan. Co-hosted by
Sitwell Co., Ltd. and
BAYCREW'S, and assisted by
Shizuka Tatsuno Studio and
Every-Directions, the event promises a rich experience for design enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
