Achilles Unveils the Sleep Kit: A Solution for Emergency Preparedness
Achilles Corporation, headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is set to launch its innovative emergency product, the 'Sleep Kit', on
October 14. This new offering aims to aid businesses and communities in their
Business Continuity Planning (BCP) efforts in the event of emergencies like natural disasters.
Since establishing its Disaster Preparedness Division in 2021, Achilles has developed various products tailored for emergency situations. Their focus has primarily been on municipal markets, but with rising concerns about significant disaster risks such as the
Nankai Trough Earthquake, they're expanding their range to include BCP supplies targeted at corporate and communal needs.
The
Great East Japan Earthquake highlighted the challenges faced by many who became stranded and couldn't return home, propelling Tokyo's local government to implement regulations addressing these issues. Measures include preventing bulk return home and securing temporary accommodation, aimed at encouraging self-help and mutual assistance among stranded individuals. Companies are now also recognizing the necessity to support employees who may find themselves in such situations and ensure business continuity in the aftermath of a disaster. To meet this need, Achilles developed the 'Sleep Kit' as a solution that efficiently utilizes limited storage space while providing essential items to improve the sleep and rest environment during crises.
The Sleep Kit consists of
20 air mats and
20 nonwoven fabric blankets, all packed into a compact box measuring approximately
31cm x 51cm x 56cm. By consolidating these items into a single package, Achilles simplifies logistics and reduces costs for organizations looking to prepare for emergencies. Furthermore, this kit is suitable not only for corporations but also for hospitals, nursing homes, and residential communities that require disaster preparedness.
Once inflated using the included pump, the air mat inflates into a cushioned surface that alleviates pressure on the body and reduces floor cold. Designed for an adult to lie comfortably, the unique structure of the air mat automatically forms a pillow when inflated. The durable construction also allows for repeated use, making it a sustainable choice. In addition, the nonwoven blankets are lightweight yet provide thermal insulation on par with traditional fleece blankets.
