Groundbreaking Initiative to Address Obesity



Eli Lilly Japan, Tanabe Mitsubishi Pharma, and Minacare have taken a significant step forward in addressing the critical health issue of obesity through a collaborative health awareness initiative. This program specifically targets members of health insurance societies who may be at risk for obesity-related complications, aiming to provide education and support for seeking medical consultations.

Obesity is defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or more, coupled with obesity-related health issues. It's recognized as a chronic condition that necessitates medical intervention. Failure to address obesity can lead to a decline in quality of life, increased risks for various health complications, including type 2 diabetes and hypertension, and the condition often goes unrecognized due to widespread misconceptions that link it predominantly to personal lifestyle choices.

This collaborative program intends to change that narrative by promoting a proper understanding of obesity as a complex medical condition influenced by genetic, physical, psychological, and social factors. The initiative seeks to encourage those who might be affected by obesity to consider medical advice and treatment options more seriously.

Objectives and Target Audience


The primary objective of this initiative is to promote a correct understanding of obesity among approximately 9 million health insurance members. The program is designed to assist individuals who meet the criteria of having a BMI of 25 or greater and are suffering from at least one obesity-related health issue.
