Bridge to Life to Present Innovations in Liver Transplantation at ILTS 2026
Bridge to Life™ Ltd., a leader in organ preservation solutions, is poised to make a significant impact during the upcoming International Congress of the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS), scheduled for May 6-9, 2026, in Geneva, Switzerland. The event will see the presentation of 12 accepted abstracts including five oral presentations, one of which forms part of a plenary session, and seven poster presentations.
At the heart of their research focuses is the use of Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion (HOPE), a groundbreaking technique in liver transplantation that has shown great promise especially in the context of organ quality and preservation. Among the presentations, one titled "Donor Serum FMN Reflects Mitochondrial Injury and Predicts Outcomes After Liver Transplantation" will be delivered by Fatma Selin Yildirim from the Cleveland Clinic on May 7. This presentation will delve into the metabolic markers that could help in assessing donor organ viability.
Furthermore, Omer Faruk Karakaya will address another aspect of HOPE with the presentation titled "Prolonged HOPE Preserves Mitochondrial Function and Enables Logistical Flexibility in Liver Transplantation," highlighting the logistical advantages of longer preservation times for donor livers.
Marco Pascale from Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli will also present groundbreaking findings on the "Perfusate Microbiology Before and After Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion." This research aims to bridge important gaps in how organ viability is assessed during and after the perfusion process.
Among the poster presentations, a significant late-breaking abstract titled "Sequential Normothermic Regional Perfusion and Hypothermic Oxygenated Machine Perfusion in Liver Grafts from Donors After Circulatory Death" will be presented by Sergio Cortese. This research is critical as it explores advanced methodologies for preserving livers from donation after circulatory death, presenting new avenues in reducing the risks associated with ischemic cholangiopathy.
Symposium: The Future of Machine Perfusion
In addition to the presentations, Bridge to Life will sponsor a symposium titled "The Future of Machine Perfusion: Combining Strategies, Optimizing Care, and Expanding Possibilities." This interactive session will take place on May 7 from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. CEST and will feature prominent speakers, including Damiano Patrono, MD, PhD, from Torino, and Rebeca Mateos, MD, from University Hospitals Birmingham. The symposium aims to foster discussion on innovative strategies in organ preservation that could enhance patient outcomes.
