Hormel Foods Completes Sale of Whole-Bird Turkey Business

The agreement was first established back in February, and as of April 24, 2026, the transition has officially taken place, marking a pivotal moment in Hormel's ongoing strategy to pivot towards more value-added protein offerings.

Details of the Acquisition



As part of this acquisition, Life-Science Innovations has gained ownership of a whole-bird production facility in Melrose, Minnesota, along with a feed mill located in Swanville, Minnesota. The existing production site will now be rebranded as "Legacy Turkey," and the workforce from the Melrose facility will seamlessly transition to LSI as part of the acquisition process. Furthermore, LSI is set to continue operations under the existing supply contracts with dedicated third-party growers of hens.

Hormel Foods will retain ownership of its JENNIE-O® brand and its range of value-added turkey products. This includes products like ground turkey, deli meats, turkey burgers, and turkey bacon, all of which serve both retail and foodservice markets. Additionally, Hormel will still have the rights to offer JENNIE-O® OVEN READY™ whole turkeys and turkey breasts. Notably, Hormel also maintains its ownership of several other facilities related to turkey production, feed milling, transportation logistics, and live production operations, all integral to the processing of turkeys for these value-added products.
