Caliber Public Safety and Vermillion County Achieve Milestone in Public Safety Technology Deployment

Introduction

Caliber Public Safety has recently celebrated a significant milestone with the successful launch of its comprehensive public safety technology suite in Vermillion County, Indiana. This deployment, which went live on May 19, 2025, marks an important advancement in how local agencies manage and respond to emergencies in the region.

Collaborative Effort

The achievement of this deployment is attributed to the extensive collaboration among various public safety disciplines in Vermillion County. Law enforcement agencies, fire departments, EMS responders, and jail operations all contributed to the planning and execution of the project. From the planning stages to the successful launch, every agency involved had a voice, ensuring that the technology could be tailored to fit their operational needs.

“Everyone in our public safety community was involved in the process to ensure we had a solution that worked for all,” explained Jimmy Miller, Jr., 911/EMS Director for Vermillion County. “Caliber was responsive to our needs and trained our personnel effectively, allowing us to develop a system that truly connects us all.” This collective effort has created a unified public safety ecosystem that serves the community more efficiently.

Enhanced Efficiency

The implementation of Caliber’s suite, which includes Hosted CAD, Hosted Mobile, Online RMS, and JailTracker, streamlines communication and data management for dispatchers, law enforcement, fire crews, EMS, and jail staff. With this technology, when a 911 call is made, dispatchers can quickly relay information directly to first responders. The integration of real-time data across various platforms ensures that all agencies share and access the same information, significantly reducing the time spent on bureaucratic paperwork and increasing the focus on community safety.

Officers in the field now benefit from mobile access, allowing them to update records and manage calls without needing to return to their stations. This real-time connectivity grants dispatchers a complete view of the situation on the ground and optimizes incident responses. As fire departments complete their acquisition of mobile hardware, they too will access this advanced technology, further enhancing collaborative efforts.

What’s Included

The deployment for Vermillion County included four CAD positions across two locations, 10 WebCAD subscriptions, 55 Mobile licenses, and 85 RMS subscriptions, which encompass both sworn and non-sworn personnel. Additionally, the project involved a full data conversion from the county's legacy system, which ensures a seamless transition and better data management across all facets of public safety.

Michael Sturgeon, Senior Project Manager at Caliber Public Safety, emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating, “The joined effort of the county's public safety leaders was pivotal for this Go Live. The collaboration among the 911 Center, Sheriff's Office, fire departments, and all emergency agencies in Vermillion County exemplifies what can be achieved when we work towards a shared goal.”
