Reviving the Essence of 'The Tale of Genji' in Modern Art at KASANE Event
On November 3rd, 2025, an extraordinary event titled
'The Tale of Genji: Colors, Sounds, and Forms - KASANE' will take place at the Imai Kan, bringing together contemporary artists to reinterpret the timeless classic, 'The Tale of Genji'. This literary masterpiece has captivated readers for over a thousand years, and its essence will be brought to life through a unique blend of art, music, and craftsmanship.
A Fusion of Arts
This event gathers seven prominent artists, including composers, musicians, artisans, and jewelry designers, each interpreting 'The Tale of Genji' from their unique perspectives. By intertwining diverse forms of expression—color, sound, and shape—they will showcase a modern interpretation of this elegant world.
The collaboration between music and jewelry design is particularly noteworthy, establishing a novel approach that underscores the significance of both mediums in sharing the story's essence.
Renowned composer
Kumiko Takahashi, known for her works based on 'The Tale of Genji', will lead the musical segments featuring violin, piano, and cello. The coupling of these musical performances with exquisite jewelry crafted by skilled artisans will create an experience that resonates deeply, representing the concept of
'KASANE' (to layer or overlap) as they harmoniously blend together.
An Enriching Experience
This event is organized to offer attendees a leisurely journey through the artistic interpretations of 'The Tale of Genji'. It will be divided into three segments:
1.

Jewelry Exhibition (13:15-14:00) – A showcase of new jewelry designs inspired by 'The Tale of Genji'.
3.
Concert (14:00-15:30) – A performance featuring new compositions by Kumiko Takahashi drawn from 'The Tale of Genji' alongside Brahms' Piano Trio No.3, Op. 101.
