On September 20, 2025, Huawei Connect 2025 commenced in Shanghai, heralding significant advancements in the realm of data centers tailored for the artificial intelligence (AI) era. This event featured the Data Center Infrastructure Summit organized by Huawei Digital Power, attracting over 500 leaders, technical experts, and partners from the global data center industry.

The focus of the summit was to explore cutting-edge technologies and environmentally friendly practices that highlight the importance of constructing reliable and high-quality data centers. During the event, Huawei presented its cutting-edge solutions aimed at achieving a carbon-neutral digital infrastructure, reiterating the company’s commitment to sustainable technology development.

Bob He, Vice President of Huawei Digital Power, capitalized on his keynote address to shed light on the rise of AI-driven data centers, which are evolving into sophisticated “computing factories.” He emphasized the critical need for efficient energy transfer from power networks to computing chips, underscoring the simplification of conversion connections and innovations in power supply architectures. With dynamic AI service requirements in mind, He introduced hybrid thermal management architectures that adapt to varying operational demands.

Highlighting the urgent need for future-ready infrastructure, He called for a shift from traditional data center technology—which struggles with unpredictability—to purpose-built, prefabricated AI data center solutions. Huawei is poised to increase its research and development investments in power management and infrastructure. By doing so, it aims to facilitate the development of agile and sustainable AI data centers that align with industry standards.

In his presentation, Steve Kim, President of Data Center Facilities and Critical Power Sales and Services at Huawei Digital Power, discussed how foundational AI models are driving the intelligent transformation of various industries. He cited projections from leading organizations predicting that the capacity of new AI data centers will reach an astounding 112 GW within the next five years. To address challenges related to security, resource deployment, IT development, and energy consumption, Huawei introduced the AI Data Center Construction Guidelines RAS.

Huawei's approach integrates ongoing technological innovations with established architecture to offer comprehensive solutions for AI data centers. This includes reference designs for various scenarios, reliable product offerings, and a robust global ecosystem that supports end-to-end lifecycle services. These measures are destined to nurture an infrastructure that is reliable, agile, and sustainable, allowing clients to seize immense opportunities in the burgeoning AI landscape.

As part of the summit, Huawei also launched the AIDC Facility Reference Design White Paper, which provides systematic guidelines for the standardized planning and construction of AI data centers. This document critically analyzes the challenges faced by high-density racks in data centers, focusing on areas such as cooling, power supply, floor height, and load-bearing capabilities. Furthermore, it offers design recommendations for integral aspects including building structure, power supply and distribution, cooling systems, and integrated cabling.

With environmental sustainability as a core tenet, Huawei exhibited innovative, eco-friendly solutions emphasizing efficient energy use, electrification, and low-carbon power generation. As computing infrastructure continues to evolve, along with rapid advancements in deep learning technologies and multi-model integration, the application scenarios and inherent value of AI are shifting from mere quantitative growth to qualitative transformation.
