Golden Exhibition Featuring Shohei Ohtani's Gold Statues
A spectacular event is set to take place at the Shinjuku Takashimaya from January 14 to January 19, 2026. This exhibition will showcase the life-size golden statues of MLB superstar Shohei Ohtani, featuring both his hitting and pitching personas. This marks the very first display of both figures together, appealing to baseball fans and collectors alike.
Created by SGC, a pioneer in the precious metal industry, these exquisite statues were officially endorsed by Ohtani and took nearly two years to create. The ``Golden Hitter Shohei Ohtani'' stands approximately 1.9 meters tall, embellished with 1,550 sheets of gold leaf, while the ``Golden Pitcher Shohei Ohtani'' is about 1.7 meters tall and adorned with 1,450 sheets of gold leaf. Each statue has an estimated price of 55 million yen, and together they carry a total reference price of 110 million yen. This price reflects Ohtani’s remarkable achievements, including the historic 50-50 record he set in 2024.
In addition to the statues, the exhibition will unveil the ``Shohei Ohtani Pure Gold Collection 2025.'' This collection features a specially crafted medal made of 100 grams of pure gold, with two variants representing Ohtani's dual role as a hitter and pitcher. Each medal is expected to retail for 6,985,000 yen. Fans can also acquire pure gold figurines in three different designs: ``K24 Hitter Shohei Ohtani,'' ``K24 Pitcher Shohei Ohtani,'' and ``K24 Two-Way Shohei Ohtani,'' available in both 1/10 and 1/20 scales at varying prices.
As the retail price of gold reaches unprecedented heights, the Golden Exhibition is expected to house over 1,000 golden products on display, making this event a luxurious affair. Attendees can marvel at intricate items ranging from gold Buddhist artifacts crafted by National Treasures to essential housewares and auspicious figurines. Visitors will not only enjoy the artworks on display but can also take advantage of free appraisals for their own gold items on-site, using advanced X-ray analyzers.
The exhibition will also feature a special presentation on the 2026 Year of the Horse, showcasing gold pieces like the ``K24 Sublime Horse'' and other themed pieces that embody hope for the New Year.
