Benesse Style Care's Art Exhibition Connects Seniors and Community in 2026

Connecting Through Art: Benesse Style Care's 2026 Summer Art Exhibition

The upcoming "Benesse Style Care Art Exhibition 2026 Summer" offers a unique opportunity for senior residents to showcase their artistic talents while fostering connections with the local community. Scheduled to take place from August 19 to August 23, 2026, at the Art Forum Azamino in Yokohama City's Aoba Ward, the exhibition will feature around 100 artworks created by residents from various Benesse Group facilities.

Highlights of the Exhibition

This exhibition is distinguished by several new initiatives, including a hands-on interactive art experience that encourages attendees to engage with the art on a tactile level. Visitors will be able to not only view the artworks but also touch and feel them, creating a multi-sensory appreciation of the pieces. Collaborative art experiences, created in conjunction with Benesse Art Site Naoshima, will also offer dialogue-based appreciation sessions, where seniors and local attendees can engage meaningfully with each other through art.

Starting in 2023, the exhibition has successfully created an atmosphere where residents can express themselves creatively and connect with the community. In the previous exhibition held in March 2026, a record 932 visitors attended, and the anticipated fifth iteration promises to deliver even more engaging experiences.

Featured Artworks

The artworks on display will comprise both individual pieces created by the residents as well as group collaborative works. The individual entries will include paintings, ceramics, photography, and calligraphy, capturing the essence of the seniors’ lives, values, and hobbies. Collaborative pieces, which involve participation from residents across 31 facilities in Kawasaki, Yokohama, and Machida, will embody the vibrancy of summer through various themes like traditional Japanese crafts and upcycled art, crafted using repurposed materials.

A brand new addition this year is the hands-on art experience, which focuses on interactive pieces designed by residents that encourage tactile exploration. By physically engaging with the artworks, visitors can share their tactile experiences verbally, enriching the understanding and appreciation of each piece.

Interactive Appreciation Sessions

In an effort to enhance the communal spirit and understanding fostered through art, Benesse will implement the “BASN Dialogic Appreciation” approach, allowing groups to explore and express their thoughts and feelings about the artworks collectively. This initiative, previously well-received, enables participants to connect with their own values and gain insights into the perspectives of others. Sessions will be held daily from August 19 to 22 at 2:30 PM. Interested visitors can simply approach the staff to participate – with no fees involved.

Community Development Through Art

Beyond the exhibition's immediate goals, Benesse Style Care aims to establish a lasting channel for communication between seniors and the community through ongoing dialogue-based appreciation activities. Events held in collaboration with Benesse’s childcare facilities have already begun creating intergenerational exchanges, enhancing social inclusion and fostering understanding across age groups.

This refined approach embodies the mission of Benesse Style Care, which is committed to promoting enhanced quality of life (QOL) for its residents through artistic expression and community engagement. Moving forward, the organization strives to ensure that everyone can live authentically and joyfully, contributing to a society that respects and nurtures individual identities.
