Innovative Partnership in Gas Pipeline Management
In a groundbreaking collaboration, Fracta Japan, led by CEO Yusuke Matoba, and Toho Gas Network, under the direction of President Yoshimitsu Shibata, have successfully developed an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm. This new tool is set to revolutionize the urban gas sector by predicting the deterioration of supply pipes, known as "供内管," a first in the field.
The introduction of this algorithm signifies a notable progression in how gas companies manage their infrastructure, as it notably enhances the investment return on maintaining and replacing aging pipelines. Reports indicate that the algorithm could double the efficiency compared to traditional methods that prioritize replacement based on the age of the pipelines. This forward-thinking approach utilizes an algorithm developed jointly with the expertise gained from previous work on main gas pipelines.
Background on the Development
Fracta has aimed to breakthrough in the gas sector, partnering with Toho Gas Network from the outset of their journey into these new technological realms. Previously, Fracta's AI for predicting the degradation of main gas lines has been implemented by Toho Gas Network to enhance the efficiency of their infrastructure updates.
The deterioration rate of underground gas pipes can vary significantly due to a multitude of factors including soil characteristics and surrounding environmental conditions. In leveraging the knowledge and data accumulated from the main gas pipeline AI applications, the newly developed algorithm extends its reach to predict the deterioration of the supply pipelines.
Toho Gas Network intends to integrate these predictive capabilities into its ongoing projects, enhancing safety and maintenance strategies. This will involve not only updating the supply pipes situated beneath roadways but also recommendations for replacing aging internal pipes located within customer premises.
Future Prospects
Fracta is committed to collaborating with Toho Gas Network further, looking to expand this groundbreaking technology to other infrastructure operators across the country. This partnership focuses on streamlining the updating process of aging pipes, addressing both efficiency and safety concerns in gas distribution.
As the industry embraces innovations such as this AI-based mechanism, both companies portray a forward-thinking image, prioritizing the longevity and integrity of our essential gas supply systems.
