Symmetry Unveils MCP Server for Enhanced Payroll Tax Engine Experience
Symmetry's Major Leap into the Agentic AI Era
In a groundbreaking announcement, Symmetry has launched a new feature for its payroll tax compliance system: the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. This innovation caters to both technical and non-technical payroll teams, granting them direct access to accurate real-time data regarding payroll tax compliance. Given that Symmetry processes the payroll for over 64 million employees annually, this enhancement is a significant step forward.
Bridging the Gap in Payroll Compliance
Symmetry's latest survey highlights a notable trend within payroll teams, revealing that an impressive 78% of organizations are integrating AI into their payroll processes. However, there remains a widespread concern regarding the accuracy of AI-driven calculations. A staggering 39% of respondents listed inaccuracies in tax computations as a primary worry. More alarmingly, only about 45% of payroll teams have established a real-time data feed for their AI systems to ensure accuracy amidst changing regulations. Without this, a considerable portion of payroll teams is left to manually push updates or rely on outdated training data.
Elizabeth Oviedo, CEO of Symmetry, emphasizes the importance of trust in AI as payroll systems evolve. "As payroll processes become increasingly autonomous, the focus will shift to whether these systems can reliably execute tax calculations time and again. Symmetry aims to establish a dependable source of truth that can keep pace with advancements in technology while ensuring accuracy in payroll management."
Transforming Payroll Operations
The MCP is designed to democratize access to payroll compliance information. It allows any member of a payroll team—from tax analysts to support staff—to verify compliance regulations or reproduce tax calculations without always having to refer complex technical tickets. This transformation means that queries that previously required engineering intervention can be addressed internally by payroll professionals, creating a more efficient workflow.
Payroll teams can now quickly determine federal, state, and local taxes for any U.S. address, run real-time calculations, and look up compliance-related limits and rules with just a few clicks. Greg Lyon, Head of Product at Symmetry, notes, "What used to entail submitting tickets for engineering support can now be resolved in an instant as every team member can access accurate tax research answers right when they need them."
Versatile Ownership of AI Compliance
Symmetry's survey indicates a divide among payroll teams regarding the future ownership of AI compliance logic, with 41% favoring internal development and 40% leaning towards partnerships with compliance specialists. Regardless of the chosen path, both approaches will rely on the foundational support of Symmetry's Tax Engine. The logic behind the STE and the MCP is built on the same proprietary tax tables and calculation algorithms. The MCP provides consistent, accurate answers while safeguarding sensitive payroll data from unauthorized changes.
"MCP has seamlessly integrated into our team's AI-driven workflow, providing us with a reliable source for addressing payroll tax questions," shares Sanya Bakshi, Product Manager at UZIO.
A Glimpse into the Future
To celebrate this pivotal advancement in payroll technology, Symmetry invites interested parties to join a live webinar titled "Build for the Agentic Payroll Era," scheduled for July 23 at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET. This session will explore the future landscape of payroll operations and how Symmetry is positioning itself at the forefront of compliance technology.
In a time where accuracy and efficiency are paramount, Symmetry's MCP feature not only bridges existing gaps in payroll compliance but also sets the stage for a new era of AI-driven payroll solutions, reflecting the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence in payroll technology. As more businesses embrace these changes, Symmetry is poised to lead the transformation of payroll services in an increasingly dynamic regulatory environment.
