AlUla Development Company Celebrates Groundbreaking for NUMAJ, a Key Project for AlUla's Transformation

AlUla Development Company Kicks Off NUMAJ Construction

AlUla Development Company (UDC), a Public Investment Fund (PIF) firm, has embarked on an exciting new chapter in the development of AlUla by breaking ground on its latest venture, NUMAJ. This landmark project, part of UDC's ambitious development strategy, was unveiled during a ceremony attended by key officials, including UDC's Managing Director John Pagano and Abeer AlAkel, CEO of the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU).

During this pivotal ceremony, Pagano emphasized the strategic importance of NUMAJ, describing it as a clear advancement in AlUla's vision of development. The project aims to not only meet the highest global standards but also enhance AlUla's status as a premier global destination, blending hospitality with unique cultural experiences.

NUMAJ is set to feature 250 luxurious rooms and is designed by the esteemed architects at GioForma, who are also known for the iconic Maraya venue. This innovative hotel draws inspiration from AlUla's stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and its astronomical significance, symbolized by the name NUMAJ, which is linked to the Nu Ursae Majoris star system, historically used for navigation by travelers.

Scheduled to open its doors in 2027, NUMAJ will operate under the prestigious Autograph Collection Hotels by Marriott International. The design aims to create a seamless connection between guests and the stunning surroundings of AlUla, with spaces that embody the region’s identity while offering a luxurious escape. The resort will boast an array of amenities, including five distinct restaurants, wellness facilities, and integrated services for both business and leisure travelers.

Sustainability is a core principle of NUMAJ, which aims to achieve Gold LEED certification. This commitment is evident in its utilization of environmentally responsible practices such as greywater recycling for irrigation, the use of local materials, UV-resistant glazing, and energy-efficient lighting, all in line with AlUla's Dark Sky policy aimed at preserving the natural night sky.

This development is part of UDC's broader strategy to reshape AlUla into a premier destination for tourism, living, and investment. Through this initiative, UDC is actively contributing to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which focuses on promoting sustainable tourism, creating investment opportunities, and driving economic diversification in the region.

By working alongside the Royal Commission for AlUla and private sector partners, UDC is paving the way for AlUla's transformation into a globally recognized hub for tourism and entertainment.
