Workday and Partners Launch AI-Powered Accelerator for Aspiring Small Business Owners
In a significant move to foster entrepreneurship among small business owners, Workday, Inc., alongside Anthropic and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), has announced the launch of the Workday Foundation Solopreneurship Accelerator Program. This new initiative focuses on empowering potential solopreneurs with artificial intelligence tools and resources to help them succeed in today’s digital economy.
The accelerator is designed for aspiring small business owners who are often navigating limited resources. It aims to address the hurdles faced by solo entrepreneurs by providing them not only with crucial funding but also with access to advanced AI technologies that can enhance their business operations. Each participant will receive a grant of $10,000 from the Workday Foundation, which can be utilized for essential business expenses.
Moreover, solopreneurs in the program will gain access to free AI credits from Anthropic’s Claude system, a highly regarded language model. In addition to funding and technology access, the initiative offers a comprehensive AI skills training curriculum developed by LISC. This training focuses on teaching participants how to effectively incorporate AI into various aspects of their businesses, including marketing strategies, CRM systems, fulfillment processes, and financial management.
The accelerator’s pilot will kick off in July 2026, targeting an initial group of 15 participants. Each cohort member will benefit from mentorship through LISC's established network of business development organizations (BDOs), which are dedicated to nurturing entrepreneurs in their communities. The curriculum will specifically aim to build AI fluency relevant to business operations. With a rapidly growing number of small businesses utilizing AI tools, the program is timely and addresses the pressing need for equipping entrepreneurs with the necessary skills to harness these technologies.
Carrie Varoquiers, Chief Impact Officer at Workday, emphasized the importance of small businesses as the backbone of communities and highlighted AI’s potential to create new opportunities. "Small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities, and AI holds incredible potential to open the doors of opportunity," she explained. This partnership with Anthropic and LISC aims to create a robust support system for individuals embarking on their entrepreneurial journeys.
In recent years, the rise of AI technologies has notably lowered the barriers to starting and running a business. Both Elizabeth Kelly from Anthropic and Michael Pugh from LISC echoed sentiments around ensuring that solo founders are equipped with the capabilities to utilize AI effectively. Kelly pointed out that solo entrepreneurs often face resource constraints yet display immense drive; thus, providing them with AI tools is crucial.
The synergy between these three entities marks a significant effort to create pathways for individuals who traditionally have limited access to economic opportunities. The design and outcomes of the program will not only support participants but are also intended to inform a wider audience of entrepreneurs and interested organizations about best practices in utilizing AI in small businesses.
The collective mission behind this initiative is to foster economic growth and inclusivity. As the program progresses and gathers insights, future updates will be shared broadly, aiming to amplify the learning experience for both participants and the larger entrepreneurial ecosystem.
For individuals interested in following the development of this program, LISC’s website will provide updates and resources related to the initiative. The Workday Foundation is dedicated to supporting community resilience and empowering future generations of small business owners through innovative programs like this one. This approach emphasizes collaboration, uplifting communities, and ensuring that aspiring entrepreneurs have the tools necessary to thrive in an evolving market landscape.
Through this initiative, Workday, Anthropic, and LISC are setting a standard for supporting solopreneurs by integrating advanced technology and comprehensive training with financial support—an opportunity that aims to elevate solo entrepreneurship to new heights.
