Okayama University Selected for the AKATSUKI Project

On June 15, 2026, Okayama University, located in Okayama City, was announced as a partner in the AKATSUKI Project supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI). This initiative aims to identify and nurture talented young individuals with exceptional ideas and technical skills in the Chugoku region.

The AKATSUKI Project focuses on fostering young talents through project management support to transform their innovations into real-world applications. The program is set to explore technologies like AI, robotics, IoT, and data analysis to address local industrial challenges. By adopting the theme "Break the Bias," the project encourages university and technical school students to collaborate on common issues faced by regional businesses.

Okayama University, in collaboration with GOB Corporation, will guide participants through the entire development process, from research and prototyping to proof of concept (PoC) and business model design. The project will be led by Yuuki Matsuda, a lecturer from the Environmental Life and Natural Sciences domain, and Associate Professor Yuta Kodera.

This initiative will also leverage partnerships with various platforms, such as the Peace & Science Innovation Ecosystem (PSI) and the Okayama Digital Innovation Generation Platform (OI-Start), to further enhance the opportunities for young talents to engage with real business challenges and to validate their ideas in real-world settings.

Through its collaboration with the Okayama Tech Garage, Okayama University will foster students' interests and innovative thinking into product development that addresses specific industrial problems. Such initiatives contribute to the cultivation of 'knowledge workers,' which is a key objective of the university's J-PEAKS program designed to link academic knowledge with societal issue resolution and value creation.

The AKATSUKI Project is set to select ten projects between July 2026 and January 2027, with each endeavor aimed at executing PoC activities within industrial environments. Moreover, beyond the support period, the project intends to sustain the development of young talent while harnessing existing frameworks like Okayama Tech Garage and local business participation, ultimately paving the way for a collaborative innovation hub that supports social implementation.
