The survey revealed that approximately 61.8% of respondents felt it was difficult to manage both aspects simultaneously. This conundrum particularly highlighted issues where protective gear, necessary for safeguarding employees from hazardous substances, increasingly posed a risk for heat exhaustion. The survey also indicated that about 83.3% of the firms lacked clear guidelines or standards to follow when addressing chemical handling procedures during peak summer conditions. Sakamoto expressed deep concern over this, stating, "In the face of unprecedented severe heat, the system for managing chemicals that ensures the safety of workers in Japanese manufacturing is at a breaking point. Therefore, Dynagon is committed to implementing a solution through our product 'Smart SDS' by summer 2027, which will provide tailored heat countermeasures based on the specific chemicals handled by various sectors."
Additionally, Japan Sigmax's representative, Osima, introduced their innovative product, the 'Medaiid Icing Gear Best 2,' designed to lower workers' body temperatures without the need for fans. This product employs a Peltier element and water cooling mechanism, thereby enabling companies that cannot afford extensive air-conditioning systems to effectively address the challenges posed by extreme heat in conjunction with chemical safety management. Osima conveyed an earnest desire to leverage their existing technology, which has been validated in the sports and medical fields, to assist manufacturing industries facing these issues.
The survey findings further emphasized the urgency of developing concise handling processes for chemical substances during extreme heat. Approximately 61.8% of companies voiced their struggles in achieving a balance between heat management and protecting their workers from chemical exposure, while only about 16.7% had established clear protocols. Many companies reported that they were either determining their approach on a case-by-case basis or had adopted an approach of trial and error, reflecting a widespread hesitation within the industry to act decisively in response to escalating climate challenges.
