In May 2023, Helical Fusion published a peer-reviewed paper detailing the designs for its initial power generation unit. The Helix Program aims to complete individual demonstrations of two major developmental components, high-temperature superconducting magnets and blanket-diverters, by the end of the 2020s. By the 2030s, it intends to achieve integrated demonstrations with its final device, Helix HARUKA, and the world’s first commercial fusion power generation with the Helix KANATA.

Currently, the construction of Helix HARUKA is progressing within the dedicated space of the National Institute for Fusion Science in Gifu Prefecture, which is crucial for demonstrating high-temperature superconducting magnets.
