YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA Hosts Exhibition 'Initiation of Death and Rebirth'
From May 17 to June 9, 2025, YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA will present a noteworthy solo exhibition,
'Initiation of Death and Rebirth,' by artist Keiichi Baba. This exhibition is a traveling showcase of the original presentation that took place at YUGEN Gallery in Minami Aoyama, Tokyo, which garnered significant attention and acclaim.
Concept behind the Exhibition
The focal point of the exhibition lies in a series titled
'RISIN: Death and Rebirth,' where Baba utilizes a unique four-step process to create art. His method involves completing images on layered cardboard, inflicting knife cuts to produce intricate textures, reconstructing them into semi-sculptural forms, and finally curing them with resin. Through this artistic journey, he expresses profound themes of birth, death, resurrection, and eternity.
Baba's creations predominantly feature symbols associated with mortality, including skulls and wound-laden goddesses, weaving narratives that reflect the concept of time. As an artist who identifies as non-religious, Baba channels his efforts toward self-salvation through the exploration of a mythical world that is original and deeply personal. He hopes that the essence of life, as it emerges from suffering and pain, will resonate strongly with viewers.
"The act of drawing, destroying, and regenerating through my artistic process serves as a rite of passage for reincarnating a sou.
A Compelling Visual Experience
This exhibition promises a compelling visual experience, urging audiences to consider the essence of life that exists beyond injury and agony. In addition to the fascinating works displayed in the original exhibition at YUGEN Gallery in Tokyo, the Fukuoka venue will feature seven new pieces from two additional series, adding to the exhibition's allure.
Keiichi Baba, an emerging talent in the art world, has even been featured on the cover of the current art magazine,
ExtrART file.44. Visitors to YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA will have the rare opportunity to appreciate his artistic vision, and we eagerly anticipate welcoming audiences.
Featured in ExtrART file.44
As a seasonal publication,
ExtrART file.44 will be available for purchase until the end of June, providing another avenue for audiences to engage with Baba's work. It is accessible through bookstores nationwide and various online platforms, making this an opportune moment for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
