The establishment of the Center for Biblical Principles in Business is rooted in the legacy of Jack Hawkins Sr. During the 1980s, Hawkins forged a significant friendship with Dr. Robert K. Jabs, the founding dean of CBU's School of Business. Their collaboration gave rise to evening classes designed for working professionals. Hawkins himself graduated from these classes in 1984, becoming a proactive member of the business community.

Notably, he owned notable companies like J.D. Diffenbaugh Construction and Inland Concrete Companies and served on CBU's Board of Trustees. His contributions to the university earned him the Lancer Medal for Lifetime Achievement in 2013. Gaye Hawkins expressed her hope that the center would be a resource for business professionals seeking to guide their practices with integrity and wisdom.
