Stoop Gallery Receives a Stunning Makeover
On April 26, the beloved vintage furniture and art gallery, Stoops, located in Kiyosumi Shirakawa, will unveil its newly expanded space as it celebrates five years of captivating design enthusiasts. The gallery, housed in a charming wooden building reminiscent of post-war reconstruction era architecture, has undergone a significant renovation that takes it to a new level of aesthetic experience and functionality.
A Vision Realized: Expansion and Transformation
Previously consisting of three independent houses, Stoops has ingeniously redesigned these accommodations into a cohesive space. The newly renovated gallery now boasts a total area of about 110 square meters, enhancing the existing gallery with a combination of exhibition and retail space. Visitors will find a seamless connection through the use of exterior stairs leading up to the second floor, where the original ceilings, walls, and beams have been carefully preserved to maintain the building's historical charm.
Additionally, a warehouse-style retail area is being introduced on the ground floor of the building adjacent to the original gallery, all unified by a striking gray façade that serves as the gallery's symbol color. The goal is to create a cohesive environment that celebrates the beauty of vintage furniture as well as contemporary artistic expressions.
Within the new gallery, guests can expect to see original tiles installed on the floor, adding a unique touch and setting the stage for future sales. This commitment to craft and design extends beyond mere aesthetics; it embodies Stoops' philosophy of highlighting not only cherished masterpieces but also the beautiful designs that may have been forgotten in the annals of history. The gallery aims to connect these designs to modern sensibilities, paving the way for future appreciation and value.
An Immersive Experience in Design
The gallery’s unique offerings include not only curated collections of vintage furniture sourced from Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa, but also a selection of contemporary artworks that speak to cross-temporal and cross-cultural dialogues. This collection is passionately brought together to inspire visitors and stimulate their imagination through various storytelling mediums.
Stoops recognizes that the importance of historical structures goes beyond mere preservation. By revitalizing the post-war wooden house while keeping its original elements intact, they are aiming to create an enriched experience where visitors can truly feel the spirit of the past intermixed with the innovations of today.
The grand re-opening will also feature the permanent collection of vintage iconic chairs, along with other special presentations. Regularly scheduled themed exhibitions are also anticipated, offering something fresh and new for enthusiasts and collectors alike.

To keep the momentum, the existing gallery area will also see enhancements including renewed entrance areas and further refinements to the second floor, ensuring a more comprehensive range of proposals can be made to visitors.
