Understanding Sleep Troubles in Summer: Insights and Solutions
As the summer heat becomes unbearable, sleep issues are rising in prevalence among adults aged 20 to 50. A survey conducted by Krasie Pharmaceuticals highlights that
around 62.3% of individuals in this demographic have encountered difficulties sleeping during the summer months.
Key Findings
1. Experience of Sleep Troubles: A Common Concern
Among the respondents, youth aged between
20 and 29 reported the highest rate of sleep troubles at
68%. The issues predominantly stem from the oppressive heat and humidity, impacting the ability to fall asleep and maintain sleep quality.
2. Top Sleep Issues: Shallow Sleep and Trouble Falling Asleep
When asked about specific sleep challenges,
53.5% noted they struggle with shallow sleep, while
53.2% reported difficulties in falling asleep. A notable
50.3% also experience awakenings during the night.
This trend indicates that most participants are not achieving restful sleep. Reviewing the rankings of sleep troubles among different age groups reveals a clear pattern: while the younger population leads with trouble falling asleep, individuals aged 50 and above express more challenges with nighttime awakenings.
3. Contributing Factors: Temperature and Humidity
Upon investigating the underlying reasons for their sleep troubles,
60.2% attributed their issues to difficulties controlling room temperature and humidity, highlighting the unique challenges summer poses. Notably,
stress was the second-most significant factor affecting sleep.
Each age group identified similar top three concerns but varied in their third factors. For the younger generation, the third concern was the struggle with temperature fluctuations between indoor and outdoor environments, while older generations linked it to changes in bodily functions and habits.
Voices from the Affected
Summer's oppressive heat affects how well people can regulate their sleeping conditions. Qualitative interviews reveal frustrations about hitting the right temperature with air conditioning, leading to discomfort and poor sleep quality.
