Understanding Time-Performance Trends Among Gen Z and Alpha with Roblox

Exploring the Impact of Time-Performance on Generations Z and Alpha through Roblox

In today's fast-paced digital landscape, the focus on time performance, or "タイパ (taipa)," is becoming increasingly prevalent among younger generations. A recent online survey conducted by WAKA, a Japanese content studio, aimed to understand how this mindset affects the use of the gaming platform Roblox among users aged 15 to 29.

Background of the Survey

As the trend of maximizing limited time gains traction, particularly among Generation Z and Generation Alpha, WAKA sought to investigate how this perception influences their choice of platforms. Roblox, a rapidly growing gaming platform, has emerged as a significant player in digital marketing, attracting attention from various industries as an innovative platform to engage audiences. This survey analyzed how these younger generations view Roblox, especially in terms of their time performance criteria.

Survey Overview

Study Title

The survey was titled “Z世代・α世代のタイパ意識とデジタルサービス利用実態調査” (Time-Performance Awareness and Digital Service Usage Among Generations Z and Alpha).

Date and Methodology

Conducted on July 9, 2026, through internet-based research, the survey received valid responses from 500 individuals aged between 15 and 29, evenly split between males and females.

Key Findings

The findings highlighted that, despite their heightened awareness of time performance, only 15% of Roblox users felt that the platform suffered from poor time efficiency—significantly lower than other platforms such as TikTok (49.4%) and Instagram (41.3%). Remarkably, 81.2% of Roblox users expressed a consistent desire to avoid wasting time, showcasing a distinctive engagement style with the platform.

The Unique Engagement with Roblox

Roblox stands out not merely as a digital content consumption platform but as a creative space where over 65% of its users actively participate in content creation. This interactive environment fosters a sense of belonging, positioning Roblox distinctly between games and social networking services.

Many respondents shared experiences that link their Roblox activities with social interactions. Approximately 80.6% utilized Roblox alongside friends, and 72.5% expressed a desire to share their experiences with others. The potential loss of access to Roblox would inconvenience 54.4% of users—highlighting its significance in their digital lives.

Beyond Gaming: The Diverse Value of Roblox

When asked what Roblox signifies to them, only 17.5% identified it solely as a game. A substantial segment viewed it as a blend of gaming and socializing—52.5% identified it as "a space between games and social media," while 33.1% considered it a community and 23.1% regarded it as their personal space. This shows that Roblox transcends mere gaming, positioning itself as a multifaceted community.
