Celebrating Two Decades of the Mynavi Women's Open
The Mynavi Women's Open, an esteemed title competition for female shogi players managed by Mynavi Publishing, is set to commemorate its 20th anniversary in 2026. This significant milestone is celebrated through various initiatives aimed at inspiring the next generation of female shogi players. As part of this celebration, two pairs of parent-child teams, consisting of young players in elementary school and above, will be invited to attend the 20th period preliminary round event live on July 18, 2026.
This initiative embodies one of the core purposes of the tournament: to support and empower women who pursue self-reliance and independence. By allowing young players to observe top female shogi players and amateur competitors in intense competitions, the event serves as an inspirational platform for these budding talents.
Engaging the Future Generation
The selected participants will include families who have registered for the “Elementary School Girls Shogi Championship” and the “Middle School Girls Shogi Championship,” as well as participants from GSP Challenge, a program designed to nurture female shogi players. For those who cannot attend in person or who were unable to win a ticket in the draw for live attendance, discounted web viewing tickets will be available, ensuring that even those unable to physically attend can still engage with the event.
Being present at this event will furnish young girls interested in shogi with a rare opportunity to visualize their future roles in the tournament. Witnessing the fierce determination and skill of professional female players firsthand will inspire these young participants as they pursue their own paths in the world of shogi.
A Showdown of Talent
The Mynavi Women's Open was founded in 2007 with a vision to champion women who self-sufficiently thrive in their careers. The tournament distinguishes itself by featuring a unique open format that allows amateur female players to compete alongside professional players, showcasing talents across various ages and backgrounds. During this preliminary round, 48 female shogi players and amateur competitors will compete for a spot in the main tournament and the opportunity to challenge for the prestigious title of “Queen.”
The event stands not only as a battleground for elite female shogi players but also as a welcoming arena for aspiring amateurs, thus promoting a culture of inclusivity and empowerment in the field of shogi.
