In a groundbreaking performance, Yutong Bus, a leading global manufacturer of utility vehicles, put its T15E electric coach through rigorous cold-weather tests in Finland. This feat includes additional tests previously conducted for other models, such as the U12 in Norway and the E18Pro in Kazakhstan, affirming Yutong's commitment to innovation in extreme conditions.
The T15E's abilities were pushed to the limit in frigid temperatures that plummeted to -20 °C. The electric bus successfully completed a series of evaluations to ascertain its performance regarding safety, energy efficiency, and its capacity to navigate both snowy and icy roads.
A Journey Through Challenging Terrain
One of the key tests involved a challenging 250 km route from Oulu to Rovaniemi. This segment tested the T15E's energy management systems and overall vehicle performance in real-world adverse conditions. Over a quick 2.5-hour journey, it excelled in battery efficiency, stability, and uphill maneuverability alongside swift cornering capabilities. Journalists present during the trial, Juho Akseli Käki and Tom Alexander Terjesen, praised the bus for its precise handling and plush onboard comfort, which is enhanced by modern, well-sprung seats and ambient interior lighting.
In a subsequent extensive trial, the T15E undertook a formidable 609.8 km voyage from Oulu to Helsinki. Notably, after facing the frigid -20 °C environment, the bus completed the journey with only 2% charge remaining, demonstrating an impressive energy consumption of just 0.94 kWh/km. This highlights the T15E's endurance and reliability in harsh winter conditions.
Advanced Technology Underpinning Performance
Victor Wang, a product engineer at Yutong Bus, commented on the test results, stating, “The Yutong T15E has proven to provide stable performance and an impressive range even in extreme cold environments.” This bus boasts a range exceeding 600 km, addressing the diverse requirements of premium long-distance bus operations.
The capabilities of the T15E are underpinned by cutting-edge technology, including a next-generation battery with high energy density rated at 630 kWh. This model pairs a sophisticated liquid cooling and heating management system that enhances efficiency and performance in low-temperature situations. For those concerned about energy consumption, the T15E features a permanent magnet synchronous motor achieving peak efficiency levels up to 97.5%.
Further innovations, such as proprietary energy recovery systems developed by Yutong and a low-temperature heat pump air conditioning system, significantly contribute to both energy savings and operational reliability.
Additionally, the T15E incorporates a fast-charging feature designed for megawatt-level compatibility, allowing the bus to be fully charged in just over an hour while being compatible with various charging stations across Europe. Safety features, such as an electronic braking system (EBS), electronic stability program (ESP), and lane departure warning system (LDWS), enhance the overall reliability and efficiency of this electric coach during long-haul travel.
The successful testing of the Yutong Bus T15E positions it as a frontrunner in electric bus technology, especially in regions prone to harsh winter weather.
