Tripti Sinha Reappointed As Chairperson Of ICANN Board; Sajid Rahman Takes Vice Chair Role
In a significant development for the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Tripti Sinha has been reappointed as the chairperson of the organization's Board of Directors. This announcement was made at the recent ICANN84 annual general meeting, which took place from October 25 to 30, 2025, in Dublin, Ireland. Alongside Sinha, Sajid Rahman has been appointed as the vice chairperson, creating a new leadership dynamic within the organization.
Tripti Sinha has been associated with the ICANN board since 2018 and her reappointment marks her fourth term in this pivotal leadership role. With over thirty years of experience in internet infrastructure, research networks, and global coordination, Sinha brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the position. Currently, she serves as the President and CEO of Internet2, a prominent nonprofit and member-driven technology organization that focuses on advanced networking technologies. Prior to her role at Internet2, Sinha held a key position at the University of Maryland, where she worked as the Vice President and Chief Technology Officer in the Information Technology department.
Expressing her gratitude, Sinha stated, "I am honored to continue working alongside such a talented and globally diverse board. This year marks an important moment for ICANN, as we implement the next strategic plan and strengthen our role in a shifting internet governance landscape. Our focus remains clear: to ensure the security and stability of the internet's unique identifier systems, advance the next round of new generic top-level domains, and deepen collaboration within our global community."
Sajid Rahman joined the ICANN board in 2022 and is currently the chair of the board's Finance Committee. His extensive background in the business and technology sectors encompasses digital services, emerging markets, and governance. As the managing partner of a fund investing in late-stage technology and renewable energy infrastructure projects, Rahman's expertise is invaluable. His previous experience includes serving as a senior executive at Standard Chartered Bank and leading Telenor Health, where he established and coordinated a global digital health business. Rahman noted, "The ICANN Board reflects the diversity, collaboration, and common goals that define the global internet community. In light of unprecedented technological and societal changes, I look forward to working with my fellow board members to advance ICANN's mission and strengthen engagement across all regions."
In addition to Sinha and Rahman’s appointments, ICANN is also welcoming three new members to the board: Constance Bommelaer de Leusse and Raúl Echeberría, selected by the ICANN Nomination Committee, and Greg DiBiase, who was chosen by the Generic Names Supporting Organization. The collective experience of these new members in internet governance, policy, and technical operations will further bolster the board's capability to fulfill ICANN's mission of ensuring a secure, stable, and interoperable global internet.
The roles of chair and vice chair in the ICANN Board are held for a one-year term, while the voting board members serve a three-year term. The board consists of twenty members, including sixteen voting members and four non-voting liaison representatives, showcasing a wide geographical diversity and expertise that highlight ICANN's commitment to global representation and technical competency in managing the internet.
