Misty Winter Promoted to CEO at Northern Hills Federal Credit Union
In a strategic move highlighting local leadership, Northern Hills Federal Credit Union (NHFCU) has announced the promotion of Misty Winter from Executive Vice President to Chief Executive Officer. This change comes as NHFCU prepares for increased growth and an expanded service area in South Dakota, following the retirement of long-serving CEO Floyd Rummel III.
Misty Winter, a native of the Rapid City area, has been a vital member of the NHFCU team since she joined in 2023. Over her extensive career in western South Dakota,
Winter’s promotion comes at a pivotal time for NHFCU, which now has the opportunity to extend its services throughout the entire state of South Dakota due to the National Credit Union Association’s recent changes. "Succession planning requires careful consideration," commented Rummel, who devoted 11 years of his 40-year financial services career as CEO of NHFCU. He emphasized the importance of finding a leader with grassroots experience, who understands the nuances of the organization’s community-focused philosophy.
Rummel described Winter as a candidate who not only meets the qualifications but exceeds expectations with her deep roots in the community and foresighted vision for the future. He stated, "We needed a leader who would keep our members front and center, foster our existing culture, and continue to expand our services across South Dakota. Misty checked all the boxes and then some."
Under Winter’s leadership, NHFCU aims to bolster its array of financial services, offering membership to anyone residing, working, attending school, or worshipping within South Dakota. The credit union is committed to maintaining accessibility by facilitating both traditional branch interactions as well as advanced online and mobile banking solutions.
"Our aim is to ensure that NHFCU is not just a financial institution, but a community resource that genuinely serves the needs of our members," Winter stated after her promotion. She looks forward to navigating the union through expanding services while preserving a strong member-focused approach that NHFCU is known for.
With branches in Sturgis, Deadwood, Spearfish, and Belle Fourche, the credit union is well-positioned to meet the diverse needs of its expanding membership. As the team ushers in a new era under Winter’s direction, numerous programs and initiatives are expected to be unveiled to enhance member engagement and satisfaction.
Winter's deep-rooted commitment likens her to a mainstay in the South Dakota Credit Union landscape. The future looks promising for both NHFCU and its members, as the organization continues to evolve and adapt to serve all communities statewide effectively.
