e-dash Partners with Iida City to Enhance Carbon Reduction Initiatives

e-dash Collaborates with Iida City on Carbon Reduction Initiatives

In a significant move towards sustainability, e-dash Inc. has been entrusted by Iida City in Nagano Prefecture to lead two impactful projects: the “CO₂ Emission Visualization Support Project” and the “Support Project for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises to Obtain SBT Certification.” This initiative, continuing from last year, aims to assist approximately 20 local SMEs in visualizing and reducing their carbon emissions through the innovative e-dash platform.

Background of the Initiative

Iida City officially declared its ambition to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050 with the “2050 Iida Zero Carbon City Declaration” made in 2021. Recognized as one of the “Leading Decarbonization Regions” by the Ministry of the Environment in 2022, Iida has made strides in building microgrids that generate renewable energy locally and promoting the installation of solar power and storage batteries.

However, transforming local businesses towards carbon neutrality remains a critical challenge, as emissions from the industrial and commercial sectors contribute to approximately 40% of the city's total CO₂ emissions for the fiscal year 2023. In response to this pressing issue, Iida City launched the “CO₂ Emission Visualization Support Project” last year to facilitate the decarbonization efforts of local businesses. More than 74 businesses participated, tripling initial expectations, showcasing the significant interest in sustainable practices.

Continuing this trend, Iida City is now expanding its support by introducing the “Support Project for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises to Obtain SBT Certification.” This initiative aims to strengthen competitiveness within supply chains while encouraging local companies to meet international reduction targets through the SBT (Science Based Targets) certification.

Overview of the Support Programs

e-dash will oversee both projects, engaging with SMEs in Iida to provide comprehensive support strategies for CO₂ emission reduction and the path towards SBT certification. This dual approach ensures that each company can take actionable steps towards effective decarbonization.

1. CO₂ Emission Visualization Support Project (Movkuru B. CO2 Emission Visualization Program):
- Objective: Assist SMEs in quantifying their CO₂ emissions and creating targeted reduction strategies.
- Method: Through the e-dash platform, companies can easily upload their utility bills (electricity, gas, etc.) to visualize their emissions accurately. Detailed reduction plans will be developed based on this visualization, alongside ongoing consultations available both online and in-person.

2. Support Project for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises to Obtain SBT Certification (Movkuru B. SME SBT Certification Support Project):
- Objective: Facilitate the SBT certification process, helping businesses to comply with global standards.
- Method: This program will support enterprises already involved in last year’s initiatives, helping them finalize the certification application process and achieve official recognition needed to boost their competitive edge in supply chains.

Both initiatives will be offered to participating companies at no charge until February 2027, although some expenses related to SBT applications may need to be covered by the companies themselves.

Commitment to Carbon Neutrality

Through these programs, e-dash aims to significantly expedite the decarbonization process within Iida’s business community, contributing robustly to the city's broader goal of achieving carbon neutrality. As noted by Yoshihito Kojima, the head of the Climate Change Countermeasures Division in Iida City, this year marks the 30th anniversary of their commitment to becoming an “Environmentally Friendly City.” The enhancements made through e-dash’s participation are anticipated to propel the local economy towards sustainable practices quickly and efficiently.

Joining the Initiative

Businesses interested in joining either of these initiatives should apply via the designated forms available online, with applications opening on June 10, 2026. Iida City, in collaboration with local partners such as the Iida Shinkin Bank, will collectively work to promote these programs and ensure successful participation from local businesses.

Conclusion

With environmental sustainability at the forefront, e-dash and Iida City's partnership represents a proactive approach to combating climate change, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving meaningful environmental goals.
