Thunes and Ecobank Join Forces to Enhance Instant Payments Across Africa
Thunes and Ecobank Collaboration
In a significant move towards enhancing financial connectivity across Sub-Saharan Africa, Thunes, the innovative platform facilitating global money transfers, is partnering with Ecobank, the leading pan-African banking group. This partnership aims to provide instant cross-border payment solutions, serving millions of individuals and businesses throughout the region. It not only represents a historical agreement to transform financial access but also a commitment to contribute to the growth of the digital economy in Africa.
Key Features of the Collaboration
The alliance is rooted in a memorandum of understanding signed in 2024 between Ecobank and TransferTo, Thunes’ parent company. This agreement sets the stage for a comprehensive overhaul of cross-border payment solutions, fostering a greater integration between bank infrastructures and fintech platforms. By enabling individuals and businesses to send, receive, and manage money in real time across borders, the collaboration promises to boost economic participation through accelerated settlements and improved liquidity access.
The rollout of these services will initially occur in Togo, the first country to benefit from this partnership, where Ecobank clients can now enjoy instant payments from global remittance players. Following this initial phase, the services are set to expand gradually across Ecobank’s 32 operational markets, adhering to local regulations in each territory.
