Masakazu Kitayama's Solo Exhibition Celebrates 10 Years of TYPOGRAFFITI

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of TYPOGRAFFITI

YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA is excited to announce a solo exhibition featuring the latest works from graphic designer Masakazu Kitayama, commemorating a decade since the inception of his acclaimed TYPOGRAFFITI series. The exhibition is set to begin on December 13, 2025, and will showcase Kitayama's innovative use of typography as a visual language through various artistic mediums, including aluminum and transparent acrylic.

Background on Masakazu Kitayama

Masakazu Kitayama, a pioneering figure in graphic design since the 1990s, has made a name for himself by creating striking album covers and editorial designs, particularly in the music industry. His established career is marked by his distinctive style that blends aesthetics with conceptual depth.

In 2015, Kitayama launched the TYPOGRAFFITI series, where he explores the artistic potential of typography in three-dimensional forms. This series has not only challenged traditional notions of language but has also captivated audiences with its alternative expressions.

Exhibition Highlights

The upcoming exhibition will feature the latest additions from the TYPOGRAFFITI collection, as well as works from Kitayama's notable series such as NO WAR. Furthermore, the exhibition will include collaborative pieces with local designer Hitoshi Nagao. This collaboration is anticipated to add a new dimension to the existing body of work, enhancing the dialogue between different artistic practices in the region.

Throughout the exhibition period, which will run from December 13 to December 25, 2025, and then again starting January 7, 2026 (dates subject to confirmation), there will be engaging dialogue sessions with guest speakers, as well as collaboration with cafes in Fukuoka. These events promise an enriching experience for both art enthusiasts and the general public.
