U.S. Medical Glove Company Expands Manufacturing in Cincinnati

The U.S. Medical Glove Company (USMGC) has made a significant stride towards reshaping America’s medical supply chain by announcing the establishment of a new manufacturing facility in Cincinnati, Ohio. This facility will be pivotal in advancing the company’s mission of creating a domestic supply chain for nitrile and polyisoprene medical gloves, completely eliminating dependence on foreign manufacturing, notably China.

With an investment projected at between $200 to $240 million, this 638,000 square-foot facility is set to become a manufacturing hub for nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), the key raw material for nitrile glove production. This move comes at a time when the integrity of global supply chains has been challenged due to geopolitical instability, emphasizing the need for resilient domestic manufacturing capabilities.

The Cincinnati facility will not only focus on the production of NBR but will also support the manufacturing of surgical gloves and specialized gloves. The company’s existing facility in Honea Path, South Carolina, where polyisoprene is produced, complements this new venture, allowing USMGC to maintain complete control over its supply chain—from raw materials to finished products.

Lucas Muriello, CFO of USMGC, commented on the strategic importance of this facility, stating, "With this acquisition, USMGC now controls every step of surgical glove production—from raw materials to finished gloves—right here in America... This means faster turnaround times and greater quality assurance, as well as a safer, more secure and dependable future for America's frontline workers."

One of the most compelling advantages of this new site will be the potential to save approximately $20 million per year in shipping costs by producing needed materials domestically, which can accelerate production and ensure consistent availability of medical supplies during times of crisis. The facility will house 18 state-of-the-art production machines specifically tailored for surgical and specialty glove manufacturing, contributing significantly to increasing capacity and revenue.

Additionally, the facility has been designed with efficiency in mind, with features such as 15 railcar spots and a powerful 25 MW power capacity, alongside a valid Air Quality Permit from the Ohio EPA. This multi-phase development will not only create hundreds of new jobs in the Cincinnati area but will also reinvigorate the local economy by investing in American labor and innovation.

As the only U.S. manufacturer of the machinery and materials necessary for nitrile gloves, USMGC recently fulfilled a $63.6 million contract from the U.S. government, which further underscores its pivotal role in enhancing the nation’s healthcare safety. Their successful completion of this contract demonstrates their commitment to meeting U.S. needs for medical supplies while adhering to stringent regulations.

The U.S. Medical Glove Company is focused on forging a fully domestic supply chain that can withstand global pressures.
