Virginia Transformer Announces Expansion
Virginia Transformer, a leader in the power transformer manufacturing sector, is poised to significantly expand its operations with a new 600,000 square-foot facility located at the Shoals Research Airpark in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. This plant constitutes the company’s seventh manufacturing site in North America and is anticipated to bring around
1,100 high-paying jobs to the region, marking a substantial boost to the local economy.
Construction is set to commence immediately, with full operational capacity expected by
January 2028. Designed to enhance the production of power transformers ranging from
2 MVA to 500 MVA, the new plant underscores Virginia Transformer's commitment to maintaining industry-leading lead times and high-quality production.
The Commitment to Growth
Prabhat Jain, CEO of Virginia Transformer, expressed enthusiasm regarding this new undertaking, stating, "For over 50 years, our growth has been propelled by a steadfast commitment to our customers. This factory further reinforces our position as the top manufacturer in North America, enabling us to meet customer demand with even greater efficiency."
The advanced facility will feature numerous cutting-edge technologies, including a dedicated on-site training center, automated warehousing systems, and digital dashboards that provide real-time updates to customers.
Governor
Kay Ivey of Alabama voiced strong support for the project, emphasizing the advantages of Muscle Shoals’ skilled workforce and favorable business environment. "Virginia Transformer’s investment reflects the strength of our community and underlines our efforts in fostering job creation and economic growth here in Alabama," stated Ivey.
Economic Impact and Strategic Location
This manufacturing expansion aligns with Virginia Transformer’s ongoing strategy to strengthen its production capabilities owing to the rising demand for electrical infrastructure in sectors such as heavy manufacturing, mining, and renewable energy. This demand has, for some time, been filled by imported transformers, making domestic production crucial for industrial growth in the United States.
"Virginia Transformers' decision to establish a facility here in Muscle Shoals is an endorsement of our highly skilled manufacturing workforce and the potential for continued industrial progress in Northwest Alabama," remarked
Kevin Jackson, President of the Shoals Economic Development Authority. "The collaboration among local economic bodies to support this project signifies a commitment to creating sustainable jobs and fostering a vibrant economic landscape."
Future Vision and Commitment to Excellence
The new plant will particularly cater to customers across a variety of sectors including utilities, data centers, renewable energy projects, and more in both the US and Canada. This investment will not only enhance local employment but will also contribute significantly to the modernization of the nation's electric grid.
“What we have here is a significant step towards reshaping the American economy with advanced manufacturing at the forefront,” stated
Stefan Loeb, VP of Business Development at Norfolk Southern, the rail partner facilitating logistics for the new facility. He emphasized that the collaboration with Alabama’s programs aims to streamline execution while enhancing supply chain efficiency for large industrial infrastructure.
By choosing Muscle Shoals as the site for this key development, Virginia Transformer is not only solidifying its place as an industry leader but is also contributing to the economic and social fabric of the region. With its focus on advanced manufacturing, the company continues to fulfill its promise of delivering premium-quality products, designed to last 60 years, to meet evolving customer needs.
