PTC and NVIDIA Collaborate to Integrate Robotics and Design Workflows

PTC and NVIDIA Collaboration: A New Era in Robotics Design

In a groundbreaking move, PTC, a leader in product design and manufacturing software based in Massachusetts, has completed a partnership with NVIDIA to connect its cloud-native CAD platform, Onshape, with NVIDIA's advanced robotics simulation framework, Isaac Sim. This collaboration, unveiled at the NVIDIA GTC 2026 conference, aims to streamline the workflow from design to accurate simulations, allowing engineers to maintain a reliable single source of truth in their robotics development processes.

A Seamless Transition from Design to Simulation

The integration of Onshape with Isaac Sim provides engineers the ability to transition from design to high-fidelity simulation in just minutes, ensuring that any modifications made to a design are automatically reflected in the simulation. This immediate feedback loop is crucial for robotic design, where iterative testing and adjustments are constantly required. Typically, transferring a design to simulation involves labor-intensive steps such as manually exporting CAD models and recreating physical elements like joints and actuators. However, the new workflow allows designers to directly transfer mechanical relationships defined in Onshape to Isaac Sim, ensuring any design changes trigger automatic updates in the simulations as well.

FANUC America Corporation, known for its innovative automation solutions, stands to benefit significantly from this new process. Amar Dhaliwal, General Manager of FANUC’s Automation Systems Group, commented, “The integration of Onshape with NVIDIA Isaac Sim enables us to incorporate simulations into the industrial robot system design and evaluation processes from an early stage. This proactive approach allows for better design decisions and faster implementation, ensuring our clients obtain the maximum benefit from their automation investments.”

Strengthening the Future of Robotics Engineering

According to David Katzman, EVP and General Manager of Onshape and Arena at PTC, the collaboration combines Onshape’s ability to facilitate rapid, collaborative design with NVIDIA's leading simulation technology. He emphasized that the evolving landscape of robotics demands workflows that can keep pace with fast-changing ideas. This synergy seeks to bolster the framework for physical AI, paving the way for future engineering advancements.

Rev Lebaredian, NVIDIA’s VP of Omniverse and simulation technologies, noted that effective robotics development relies on an ongoing feedback loop between design and physically accurate simulations. By connecting Onshape to Isaac Sim, engineers can see the effects of various design changes reflected almost instantaneously, facilitating rapid iterations and scaling intelligent machine development efforts.

Cloud-Based Architecture for Enhanced Development

This collaboration leverages a cloud-native architecture built on Amazon Web Services (AWS) that maintains synchronization between design and simulation throughout the entire development process. This ensures that engineers, researchers, and AI developers can dedicate their time to validating behaviors and enhancing performance rather than preparing simulation models.

The innovative workflows connecting Onshape and Isaac Sim were demonstrated at the NVIDIA GTC event, taking place from March 16th to 19th, 2026, in San Jose, California. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in technical sessions, partner content, and customer case studies throughout the event, highlighting the transformative potential of this integration.

PTC's Vision for Intelligent Product Lifecycle Management

Through its product portfolio, which includes Onshape, PTC is on a mission to realize its vision of Intelligent Product Lifecycle (IPL) management. By providing foundational product data management, PTC helps manufacturing and product companies leverage AI to accelerate transformation and support a digital thread from design to service.

The broad utilization of product data allows businesses not only to bring high-quality products to market faster but also to manage product complexity effectively while meeting regulatory and compliance demands.
