Milestone Developer Summit 2025: A Platform for Innovation
The
Milestone Developer Summit 2025 unfolded at the historic Carlsberg Museum in
Copenhagen, Denmark, attracting innovators and developers from around the globe, with a clear focus on enhancing video surveillance technology. This venue reflects a legacy of innovation, making it a fitting backdrop for discussions around the future of
video technology.
On the heels of the announcement regarding the upcoming
Vision Language Model (VLM) powered by
NVIDIA, 55 AI developers got the rare opportunity to work with this advanced technology. Trained on over 75,000 hours of ethically sourced video data, the VLM aims to revolutionize how we interact with and interpret video surveillance footage.
The Need for Innovation in Video Surveillance
Today, millions of video cameras are in operation, capturing vast amounts of data that go largely underutilized. The challenge lies in analyzing these hours of footage effectively. The summit addressed these pressing needs, calling for new ideas and technologies to unlock the potential of smart video surveillance.
Sebastian Döllner, VP of Technology Partnerships at Milestone, emphasized the need for collaboration in technology development: "Technology is evolving faster than ever, and no single company has all the answers. The essence of Milestone's open platform is to empower innovation."
Breakthrough Discussions and Knowledge Sharing
The event featured keynote speakers from industry giants like
AWS,
Dell, and
Intel, along with valuable breakout workshops. Participants engaged in discussions about the future directions for video technology and shared insights that could shape urban environments and emergency responses.
Before the summit, a selected group of developers from 15 countries had early access to the specialized VLM, enabling them to experiment with its features. The hackathon encouraged creative solutions integrating the VLM API, which could lead to smarter urban management tools that make real-time data accessible.
One significant highlight of the summit was the
Hafnia Hackathon, an event designed to inspire developers to craft innovative integrations with the API. Participants worked diligently to devise solutions that would leverage video intelligence in real-world applications, enhancing public safety and city planning.
Celebrating the Innovators
At the conclusion of the hackathon, six finalists presented their innovative solutions, competing for recognition and prizes. The top winner was
Thomas Kreutz, who created a tool called
Ask The City. This application transforms live city camera feeds into instant, privacy-compliant answers to real-time inquiries. Kreutz expressed his satisfaction with the ease of using the API for development: "What I liked most about the hackathon was how easy it was to get started."
Other notable finalist projects included:
- - VLM for Emergency Response: A solution that contextualizes and creates response plans for emergencies in real-time.
- - SmartMap: A project integrating traffic data and environmental factors into live operational maps.
- - RevoFlow: A no-code workflow builder enabling security experts to devise video analytics.
The summit set a strong precedent for future collaborations and innovations in the
video surveillance sector. As Milestone Systems continues to lead in video technology, the importance of a collaborative approach to innovation remains clear.
