KOTRIO x CITY HUNTER: A New Chapter in Heroism

The KOTRIO HERO PROJECT, launched on April 1, 2025, marks an exciting collaboration with the beloved manga series, CITY HUNTER. This initiative aims not only to celebrate the legacy of the series but also to redefine the concept of heroes in contemporary society. It focuses on the dedicated individuals in Japan's healthcare and welfare sectors, who silently strive to improve lives during a time of critical shortages in these important fields.

With the aging population rapidly increasing, Japan faces the '2025 Problem,' where about one in five is expected to be aged 75 or older. This demographic shift exacerbates the existing challenges within the social security system, leading to a pressing need for sustainable solutions in healthcare and welfare. A report by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare highlights that by 2024, around 7.1 million people will require care, while only approximately 2.1 million caregivers are available. Projections estimate a shortfall of around 570,000 caregivers by 2040, compromising not only the quality of care but also the sustainability of communities across Japan.

Recognizing the unwavering dedication of healthcare professionals, KOTRIO believes these individuals embody the spirit of heroes. Thus, the project was launched to reframe their societal value and amplify their voices through the creative medium of CITY HUNTER.

Celebrating 40 Years of CITY HUNTER

This collaboration coincides with the 40th anniversary of CITY HUNTER, which began its serialization in 1985. The main characters, Ryo Saeba and Kaori Makimura, have captured the hearts of generations with their adventures in solving criminal cases and offering help to those in need. Throughout the years, their stories have resonated with audiences, drawing parallels to the everyday challenges faced by healthcare providers, thereby linking the core message of CITY HUNTER with contemporary societal issues.

The collaboration's official site will feature exciting illustrations of Ryo and Kaori in healthcare uniforms, merging retro beloved scenes from the manga with modern storytelling. The tagline,
