However, a back injury prompted her to pivot into utilization review, evolving this role into what is known today as case management. Through her various roles, she covered a wide spectrum of clinical areas within the hospital, ultimately honing her expertise in psychiatry while supporting the obstetrics and gynecology departments as needed.
A defining moment in Laura’s career came when she was pivotal in developing and implementing case management protocols within the emergency department at Allegheny Health Network. Her contributions were vital in laying the foundation for this essential service, demonstrating her keen clinical insight and her commitment to enhancing patient care. Laura holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Carlow College and has committed herself to lifelong learning. She has engaged in numerous professional development opportunities, earning various certifications and attending seminars to enhance her knowledge and skills. Her ties within the Allegheny Health Network remain strong as she actively collaborates with psychiatry professionals at Allegheny General Hospital, ensuring continuity in patient care and support.
Outside of her clinical duties, Laura is also known for her philanthropic efforts. She participates in the Angels of Allegheny honor guard, which performs ceremonial services to honor nurses who have passed away locally, reflecting her commitment to the nursing community. Additionally, she is involved in various Bible study groups within the Catholic Church and contributes to the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Regina Coeli Parish, blending her faith with her service.
Laura credits her mother, Carol Mascari, an accomplished RN, as her greatest inspiration throughout her nursing career. She acknowledges the support of her friends and mentors, which has greatly influenced her path and achievements in healthcare.
