In light of the ongoing global housing crisis, Habitat for Humanity has launched a compelling new campaign titled 'Let's Open the Door'. This initiative seeks to raise awareness about the imperative need for affordable housing while celebrating 50 years of the organization's mission to provide safe and sustainable homes for families around the world.

A Significant Milestone


2026 marks a significant milestone for Habitat for Humanity, as the organization commemorates half a century of building homes alongside families and communities. The organization has worked diligently, enabling individuals to secure a safe, affordable place to call home, which serves as a foundation for better health, education, economic growth, and overall well-being.

Each day, approximately one in three people wakes up without the security of a safe and affordable home, making the urgency of this campaign particularly salient. As Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, stated, "Housing has been at the core of Habitat's work for 50 years. Our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live becomes more attainable with the support of our partners and communities."

Global Outreach Through Pop-Up Events


Habitat for Humanity kicked off its 'Let's Open the Door' campaign with an experiential pop-up event at Garibaldi Plaza in New York City. This interactive installation is set to travel to various cities around the globe, inviting the public to engage with the critical role housing plays in strengthening communities.

The campaign is supported by partners including State Farm, Whirlpool, Lowe's, and Wells Fargo, who share the vision of improving access to housing through unique pop-up installations, local builds, and digital storytelling initiatives across more than 60 countries.

The 'Home is the Key' Initiative


On April 1, Habitat will also launch its annual 'Home is the Key' initiative in the U.S. This month-long program stimulates discussions around innovative housing solutions and aims to galvanize partners, advocates, and communities towards action. Notably, this year's activities will feature engagements by local Habitat organizations in cities such as Atlanta, Chicago, and Los Angeles, each hosting discussions and house dedications to highlight the impact of collective action.

Prominent Habitat supporters, Drew and Jonathan Scott, have been passionate advocates for the cause. They emphasize that change requires collaboration beyond simply building homes, aiming to address the systemic challenges within the housing sector. "We know how transformative a home can be for a family," said Drew Scott. "We are ready to work with everyone to ensure that more families have a safe place to live."

Touring the Globe


In addition to pop-up events, Habitat's 'Let's Open the Door' campaign features a tour across 10 cities, further engaging people globally on the topic of housing. Cities like Mexico City, Washington D.C., and London will host events showcasing the powerful stories of families impacted by Habitat's work. Each installation aims to spark conversations around housing solutions and symbolize the opportunities presented by open doors within communities.
