Cosmo Eco Power and Japan Benex Finalize a Groundbreaking Physical PPA Agreement

Cosmo Eco Power and Japan Benex Enter a Strategic Partnership for Solar Energy

In a significant milestone for renewable energy in Japan, Cosmo Eco Power, part of the Cosmo Energy Holdings Group, has announced its collaboration with Japan Benex to establish a Physical Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) aimed at rooftop-installed solar power. This initiative leverages Cosmo Eco Power's aggregation services to optimize the use of rooftops on logistics facilities, thereby enhancing the deployment of decentralized energy sources and furthering renewable energy utilization.

The agreement specifies that Cosmo Eco Power will receive renewable energy from two solar power plants owned and maintained by Japan Benex, located in Kanagawa and Hyogo Prefectures. With a combined capacity of approximately 5.5 MW, this partnership will see Cosmo Eco Power receiving energy for a duration of 20 years. As an aggregator, Cosmo Eco Power will supply this energy to its subsidiary, Cosmo Energy Solutions, which operates as a retail electricity provider, selling the renewable energy to consumers.

The primary goal of this arrangement is to contribute to the proliferation of renewable energy while fulfilling corporate social responsibilities towards the realization of a carbon-neutral society. Cosmo Eco Power and Japan Benex are committed to ongoing efforts aimed at reducing environmental burdens and promoting a sustainable future.

Aggregation Services by Cosmo Eco Power

Cosmo Eco Power’s aggregation services have been developed based on extensive experience in managing the transition and operation of its own solar power plants to the Feed-in Premium (FIP) system, as well as its activities in the sales and procurement of renewable energy. These services cater specifically to electricity providers seeking flexible renewable energy solutions while mitigating risks associated with procurement.

Support for Power Producers

  • - Comprehensive assistance for transitioning to FIP.
  • - Long-term fixed-price purchase agreements to enhance energy output and sales.

Services for Retail Electricity Providers and Consumers

  • - Flexible and customizable procurement options in terms of price, volume, and duration.

You can find more information about their aggregation services on the Cosmo Eco Power website.

Commitment to Carbon Neutrality

As part of the broader Cosmo Energy Group, Cosmo Eco Power is dedicated to achieving a zero-carbon target by 2050. The shift from the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) to the Feed-in Premium (FIP) reflects the government's commitment to enhance the role of renewable energy in the power generation mix. The knowledge gained from this endeavor is expected to benefit future projects, such as offshore and land-based wind power developments, thereby establishing a strong foundation for renewable energy as a primary power source in Japan.

The Legacy of Japan Benex

Founded in 1957, Japan Benex has leveraged its 67 years of expertise in precision sheet metal processing to make significant inroads into the renewable energy sector since 2012. Their focus on utilizing roofs of logistics facilities has led to the establishment of approximately 63.6 MW of solar power capacity across Japan. Through constructing and operating solar power plants, Japan Benex aims to actively contribute to the realisation of a decarbonized society.

This agreement between Cosmo Eco Power and Japan Benex marks a pivotal advancement in Japan's renewable energy landscape, highlighting a movement toward sustainable energy practices in the corporate sphere. As both companies forge ahead, their collaborative efforts serve as a beacon of hope for a greener and more sustainable future.
