XGRIDS PortalCam Achieves Historic Recognition with Four NAB Product of the Year Awards in One Year

XGRIDS PortalCam Makes History at NAB Show

In an outstanding achievement that has left the media technology landscape buzzing, XGRIDS has proudly announced its spatial camera, the PortalCam, has won four NAB Product of the Year Awards at the prestigious NAB Show held in Las Vegas on April 22, 2026. This remarkable feat makes PortalCam the first product in the eight-year history of the NAB awards program to win in four distinct categories within a single year.

The NAB Show, organized by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), is heralded globally as one of the leading events for broadcast, film, and media technology. It gathers innovators and production professionals from around the world, highlighting the latest advancements in the industry.

The PortalCam triumphed in the categories of Cameras, Graphics/VFX/Image Mixers, Smart Technology, and Remote/Live Production. This accomplishment reflects the growing significance of spatial intelligence technologies throughout the content creation process, covering capture, post-production, AI-driven workflows, and live production.

What Makes PortalCam Unique?

PortalCam stands out for its innovative integration of LiDAR technology combined with a multi-camera array. This unique setup allows for the seamless capturing of real-world environments, transforming them into photorealistic, measurable 3D Gaussian Splatting Models (3DGS) in just a single walkthrough. The data collected is processed through XGRIDS' LCC Studio software, generating navigable 3D environments suitable for editing, visualization, and deployment within programming frameworks like Unreal Engine and Unity.

By enabling the transformation of physical locations into reusable digital assets, PortalCam fundamentally supports workflows in all phases of production, from pre-production to post-production. It allows for location scouting to be completed once and then reused by distributed teams, facilitating virtual production workflows that operate independently from physical locations. Visual effects (VFX) teams can work directly with comprehensive spatial datasets rather than grappling with limited 2D materials.

Real-World Applications and Impact

The effectiveness of PortalCam and the LCC pipeline has already been proven in various film and broadcasting applications. Notably, in South Korea, SBS Integrated its system into their AIXR Studio to support XR-based live broadcast workflows. The technology was also utilized for location scouting and virtual set planning in the Cannes award-winning film, Resurrection, allowing the production team to make informed decisions based on digital replicas of actual locations.

Moreover, the Apple TV+ series Shrinking employed PortalCam to pre-capture the filming environment and project it onto LED volumes, thus allowing actors to perform before photorealistic digital backdrops while significantly reducing the need for post-production compositing work.

According to Sunny Liao, XGRIDS' Director of Global Sales and Marketing, “Winning four awards across different categories signifies a greater shift in the industry. Spatial capturing is evolving from a specialized tool to a core infrastructure for creating and utilizing digital content across various fields.”

About XGRIDS

XGRIDS is on a mission to build a platform for spatial intelligence. This bridge connects the physical and digital world by converting physical environments into structured spatial data that can be utilized for production, simulation, and AI-driven applications. The innovative work led by XGRIDS stands at the forefront of a technological evolution that is set to redefine the media industry.

As XGRIDS continues to push the boundaries of spatial technology, the potential for greater innovation in media production processes is promising. The recognition received at the 2026 NAB Show marks the beginning of a new era in content creation, where photorealistic virtual environments can enhance creativity and efficiency in ways previously unimaginable.
