Experience the Vibrant Food Culture of Fukuoka at the Feel Fukuoka Event

Discover the Heart of Fukuoka's Culinary Scene: The Feel Fukuoka Event

The vibrant city of Fukuoka, recognized as the gateway to western Japan, showcased its unique street food culture through the recent "Feel Fukuoka Event" held by ENGAWA Inc. in collaboration with Fukuoka City on February 20 and 21, 2026. This two-day event aimed to promote the city's culinary, cultural, and natural attractions to both domestic and international visitors, successfully welcoming over 100 guests, including foreign tourists, international media, and influencers. ENGAWA utilized its strong network of foreign Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and expertise in inbound promotions to create immersive experiences centered around Fukuoka's beloved "yatai" street stalls and ramen, allowing participants to truly engage with the city's culinary aspects.

Event Highlights

The event commenced with an opening address from Mr. Yokoyama of Fukuoka City, who welcomed participants and introduced diverse content to deepen their understanding of the local culture.

Real-Time "Yatai Concierge" Experience

A live connection was established with Mr. Mizuta, a staff member from the Fukuoka Airport International Tourist Information Center who served as the "Yatai Concierge." He provided an insightful introduction to Fukuoka's yatai culture, explaining essential etiquette for enjoying the stalls, such as "one drink, one food order" and the importance of preparing cash. He also engaged with the audience to assess their preferences and recommend the best yatai areas, creating an interactive experience that connected the event's location with the vibrant stalls of Fukuoka.

Sensory Comparison: Traditional Ramen Soup

Another engaging session featured Andrew Baba, founder of the ramen experience facility "BABA Ramen." He elaborated on the rich history of tonkotsu ramen, which originated in Fukuoka. The traditional method of continuously simmering the ramen broth for 24 hours was demonstrated, followed by a tasting session where participants compared both the Tokyo-style and Fukuoka-style tonkotsu broth. Feedback from participants revealed their astonishment at the contrasting flavors, with many expressing that the tasting experience enhanced their understanding of Japanese food culture from both visual and gustatory perspectives.

Traditional Craft Workshop: Lantern Painting

On the second day, participants had the opportunity to engage in a lantern painting workshop guided by Mr. Kadota, the owner of a traditional lantern shop in Fukuoka. Attendees expressed their creativity by painting their unique designs on the lanterns, immersing themselves in the warmth of Japan's traditional craftsmanship. The completed lanterns served as cherished mementos from their time in Fukuoka.

Exhibition Booth Highlights

During the free time, the event featured four themed booths focusing on "Food," "Entertainment," "Traditional Crafts," and the "Western Golden Route," a tourist circuit in western Japan. Attendees enjoyed Fukuoka's local sake and specialty snacks at the counters, and a social media contest was held, drawing participants who aimed for exciting prizes. Many expressed their enthusiasm for exploring Fukuoka's yatai and appreciated the direct experience of Japanese traditional culture.
