Comerica Bank's Bold Move to Energize Small Businesses
In a robust show of support for small businesses during National Small Business Week (May 4-10), Comerica Bank has pledged a remarkable $250,000 to community organizations dedicated to fostering entrepreneurial ventures. This initiative reflects the bank's deep commitment to empowering local entrepreneurs and strengthening the economy.
The contributions will benefit five nonprofit organizations across America, each receiving $50,000. This list includes Impact Ventures based in Dallas, Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment from Los Angeles, TechTown Detroit in Michigan, the Women's Business Enterprise Alliance located in Houston, and Working Solutions CDFI from San Francisco. These organizations focus on aiding entrepreneurs by offering educational resources, funding opportunities, and community support systems.
"Delivering on our commitment to small businesses in the communities we serve is crucial in strengthening families, supporting neighborhoods, and enhancing local economies," stated Omar Salah, Comerica Bank's Executive Vice President and Director of Small Business Banking. He emphasized the vital role these community organizations play in understanding and addressing the barriers that small business owners face.
As part of its celebration of National Small Business Week, Comerica will recognize these nonprofits during check presentations at baseball-themed events across Detroit, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
The U.S. Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy reported a remarkable number of 34.8 million small businesses in the country as of 2024, representing a 4.5% growth from the previous year. These small enterprises are a crucial driving force behind the American economy, providing employment to around 59 million individuals.
Comerica Bank has been actively enhancing its support system for small businesses since 2022, establishing dedicated banking teams tasked with meeting the needs of entrepreneurs. Their innovative approaches include various initiatives aimed at uplifting the small business community.
Some of these initiatives comprise:

Furthermore, Comerica extends its outreach into community partnerships, organizing Business $ense boot camps in collaboration with local organizations like the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan and the Black United Fund. Volunteers from Comerica will be active during events designed to equip aspiring entrepreneurs with essential business skills.
Comerica’s initiatives have garnered recognition, as highlighted by the Crisil Coalition Greenwich Awards that acknowledged the bank for its exceptional services in the Small Business Banking sector. The bank’s commitment mirrors a fundamental philosophy that values long-term customer relationships and the importance of empowering every entrepreneur, contributing positively to the fabric of their communities.
