GCL SI Becomes the First Solar Company to Join TianGong Initiative in Carbon Transparency
GCL SI Joins TianGong Initiative
In a groundbreaking development in the solar energy industry, GCL System Integration Technology Co., Ltd. (GCL SI) has officially joined the TianGong Initiative as the first photovoltaic solar company. This significant announcement was made during the inaugural day of the SNEC PV Power Expo 2025, where GCL SI held a ceremony at its booth to celebrate this milestone.
Overview of the TianGong Initiative
Founded by Tsinghua University, the TianGong Initiative was established by the Carbon Footprint Industry Alliance (CFIA), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting comprehensive carbon data frameworks. Its primary mission is to develop a globally recognized carbon data analysis platform, aiding in international interoperability for carbon data and promoting transparency within supply chains.
Collaborative Vision
At the launch ceremony on June 11, high-profile attendees including Zheng Ren, GCL SI’s Chief Operating Officer; Qi Jianchuan, the TianGong Initiative’s Deputy Secretary-General, and Li Shubo from Ant Digital signed a tripartite agreement marking a pivotal progression in carbon data transparency and verification in the solar industry. This collaboration is expected to enhance GCL SI’s capabilities in monitoring and managing its carbon footprint.
Integrating Advanced Technology for Carbon Tracking
Utilizing its GCL SiRo carbon data platform, developed in collaboration with Ant Digital, GCL SI has made strides in quantifying its carbon footprint and achieving traceability throughout its supply chain. By leveraging advanced data processing and blockchain technologies, GCL SI's product-level carbon footprint data is now accessible on the TianGong LCA data platform. This integration serves as a model for low-carbon data ecosystems in China and bolsters the global competitiveness of environmentally friendly supply chains.
Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
GCL SI has consistently been a leader in low-carbon innovations. Its granular silicon FBR production boasts an impressive industry-leading carbon emission rate of just 37 kg of CO₂ equivalent per kilogram. This translates to over 2 million tons of CO₂ emissions reduced for every 100,000 tons produced—a remarkable achievement highlighting GCL SI’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
Zheng Ren expressed pride in joining the TianGong Initiative, emphasizing the importance of transformative connections within the solar industry. “By linking the SiRo Carbon Data Platform to the LCA TianGong Data Platform, we are transitioning from a linear model to a dynamic network connecting essential resources across the solar sector and beyond. Together, we will innovate, reduce carbon emissions, and work towards a sustainable future. We invite our partners to join us on this critical journey.”
Looking Forward
As GCL SI moves forward with this initiative, its role as a pioneer in carbon transparency and sustainable practices within the solar energy sector is solidified. The collaboration with the TianGong Initiative represents a commitment not only to advancing technology and innovation but also to fostering a more sustainable environment for future generations.
This partnership is poised to set new standards for transparency in carbon data reporting and responsible manufacturing within the solar industry, promoting a leap towards a greener and more sustainable future.
