Rosalind Franklin University Surpasses $1 Million Challenge Goal
In a remarkable achievement,
Rosalind Franklin University (RFU) has not only met but also surpassed its ambitious
$1 Million Scholl Matching Gift Challenge ahead of schedule. This success marks a significant advancement in the university's commitment to enhancing scholarship funding and resources for students dedicated to healing and serving their communities. The announcement was made on
July 30, 2025, reflecting the dedication and generosity of alumni and community partners involved in the campaign.
Following this success, RFU is excited to introduce a new matching initiative called the
Richard M. Evans, DPM '71, and Katherine Evans Challenge Match. The Evans couple's decision to support both matching grants highlights the importance of expanding scholarship opportunities for worthy students pursuing careers in podiatric medicine.
Dr. Evans emphasized the profound influence that working in podiatric medicine has had on their lives and the lives of countless patients. He stated,
“We’ve seen the impact our work can have on the quality of life for our patients and how that extends to our community. When we established the first match, we wanted to ensure that more communities have access to podiatric physicians.”
The urgency of this challenge also stems from a projected shortage of podiatric physicians in the coming years, with demand expected to outstrip supply by
2037. This situation poses a real threat to preventive healthcare, as fewer podiatric physicians could lead to a rise in conditions like diabetic foot ulcers, resulting in decreased mobility and quality of life for many individuals.
The Evans' initiative is a testament to the evolving nature of philanthropic endeavors at RFU, creating an additional fundraising goal of $1 million aimed at enhancing the
Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine and supporting the
Interprofessional Community Clinic, which provides vital care to uninsured populations.
Notably, underlining RFU’s commitment to student support is the impressive milestone of surpassing
$20 million in its ongoing
Empowering Scholars campaign, also ahead of schedule. The campaign goes beyond merely providing financial assistance; it represents an investment in the next generation of healthcare leaders and advocates dedicated to delivering compassionate, high-quality healthcare to their communities.
Dean
Stephanie Wu, DPM, MSc, FACFAS of Scholl College stated,
“Philanthropy fuels our progress and our resolve to support our resilient and bright students who are determined to make a difference in the world.” She continued to praise the commitment of alumni and partners to ensure that students receive an immersive education while contributing positively to community health.
The new matching challenge officially commenced on
July 1, 2025, and will remain active until
June 30, 2027, or until the fundraising goal is reached. Individuals interested in contributing to this impactful initiative can make donations through the university’s website.
