Santa Clara Family Health Plan Begins New Community Resource Center Construction

Santa Clara Family Health Plan Launches Construction of New Resource Center

On July 28, 2025, the Santa Clara Family Health Plan (SCFHP) marked a significant milestone by commencing construction of its latest public facility, the South County Community Resource Center (SCCRC), located in Gilroy, California. Scheduled to open in early 2026, the center aims to provide essential health resources to the residents of Gilroy, Morgan Hill, and San Martin.

Celebrating Community Involvement

During the groundbreaking event, many local dignitaries gathered, including Gilroy Mayor Greg Bozzo and Morgan Hill Mayor Mark Turner. Their presence highlighted the community's collective commitment towards improving health accessibility in South County. SCFHP’s Executive Team was also present, demonstrating their dedication to addressing the health needs in the area, where over 20,000 members currently reside.

Christine M. Tomcala, the Chief Executive Officer of SCFHP, emphasized the importance of the new center for the residents, stating, "This Community Resource Center will fill a crucial gap in health services available locally, allowing our members to access the support they need without traveling to San Jose."

Addressing Health Disparities

The development of the SCCRC follows more than three years of thorough planning and community engagement. To ensure that the center meets the specific needs of local residents, SCFHP has actively collaborated with a Resident Advisory Group composed of community members. This engagement has allowed SCFHP to understand the health and social requirements of the population it serves.

The SCCRC, located at 150 Leavesley Road, plans to offer various services that include:
  • - Application assistance for Medi-Cal, Covered California, and CalFresh,
  • - Referrals to healthcare, food, and housing resources,
  • - Educational classes focused on health, cooking, and exercise,
  • - Customer service support for SCFHP members.

Local leaders such as Mayor Bozzo and Mayor Turner expressed their optimism regarding the impact of the center. Mayor Bozzo noted, "It's great to see how this center will address the unmet needs of our community," while Mayor Turner added, "This is a significant win for South County, bringing vital health resources closer to residents who require support."

Immediate Services for the Community

While construction is underway, SCFHP is maintaining its commitment to serve the South County community at its South County Service Hub, located inside The Neon Exchange at 7365 Monterey Road in Gilroy. The hub operates Monday through Friday, from 10 AM to 5 PM (closed for lunch from 12 PM to 1 PM). Residents can schedule appointments or inquire about services by emailing [email protected] or calling 1-408-613-9001.
