S-Build's Transformative Salary Structure Update
S-Build, a leading office interior construction company based in Osaka, Japan, is embarking on a significant overhaul of its salary and allowance systems effective July 1, 2026. This decision comes in response to rising living costs and aims to foster a more transparent and engaging work environment for employees under the leadership of CEO Takao Sawaguchi.
Overview of Major Changes
1. Abolishment of Fixed Overtime System
S-Build will eliminate its existing fixed overtime system, which previously included a predetermined portion of salaries allocated for overtime work. In its place, employees will receive separate compensation for any hours worked beyond their regular shifts, based on actual time. This shift is intended to provide fair evaluations and improved management of working hours, while ensuring that employees secure their earnings adequately. Alongside this change, a substantial increase in base salaries will be put into effect, directly benefiting all existing employees. This adjustment will be inclusive of new housing allowances.
2. Increased Housing Allowance (Up to 2.5 Times)
To alleviate the financial burden on employees, S-Build will significantly boost its housing allowances, factoring in the cost of living depending on their residential area. This increase is designed to provide further support to its workforce, ensuring they are capable of maintaining a comfortable standard of living while fulfilling their professional roles.
3. Strengthening of Qualification and Position Allowances
S-Build is also focusing on enhancing allowances for employees who pursue skill development and take on responsibilities. This includes a fundamental reassessment of qualification allowances, raising them to a minimum of three times their current level, with potential increases of up to five times.
Simultaneously, position-based allowances will see a rise ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 yen, as a recognition of the responsibilities associated with different job roles.
The Rationale Behind the Changes
At S-Build, there is a steadfast belief that the foundation of corporate growth hinges on the contributions of individual employees. With the construction and interior design industry facing immediate challenges in improving working conditions and securing talented personnel, the company recognizes the urgency of addressing the escalating cost of living. The recent modifications to the salary structure signify a commitment to creating a secure and transparent working atmosphere that motivates employees. This initiative aims to markedly uplift morale and engagement levels among staff, empowering them to perform their roles with greater enthusiasm and dedication.
S-Build continues to prioritize building an environment where employees can thrive over the long term. The company's commitment to enhancing corporate value and contributing positively to society remains strong. As S-Build forges ahead, it strives to ensure that its workforce is not only well-compensated but also highly motivated and engaged in their work.
