On February 7, as twilight enveloped Pinghu, the lakeside pathways of the East Lake Scenic Area became a vibrant hub for visitors eager to witness the opening of the 2026 Jinpinghu Lantern Festival. This annual celebration, held during the Lunar New Year, transforms the waterfront into a spectacular tapestry of light and color, drawing locals and tourists alike.

Starting at 6:30 PM, a spectacular drone display lit up the night sky above the iconic Li Shutong Memorial Hall, heralding the festival's commencement. Moments later, an official announcement marked the opening of the exhibition, illuminating 45 thematic lantern installations and decorative lighting that dazzled spectators, casting shimmering reflections on the lake and establishing the festive tone for Pinghu.

The festival's expansive display covers approximately 72,000 square meters, divided into four thematic zones, including "Elegant Pinghu" and "Lanterns of Fortune." These artistic creations, crafted by a skilled team from Zigong—a city renowned for its lantern-making tradition—feature thousands of tiny lights that create a magical atmosphere. As visitors explore the park's winding paths, they are guided by both the landscape's contours and the captivating installations, each step revealing new wonders.

As emphasized by the Pinghu Investment Group for Culture and Tourism, the opening ceremony marks just the beginning of a broader program that will unfold throughout the Lunar New Year festivities. Special performances are scheduled on select nights, alongside a continuous parade titled "Greeting the God of Wealth" that meanders through the venue during the holidays. The lantern festival promises not only visual delights but also a distinct cultural experience, featuring traditional arts programs, including performances of Pinghu-style pipa music, enhancing the night’s magic.
