Record Participation in Bloomberg's Global Trading Challenge Reflects Growing Interest in Finance Education

Overview of the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge



The annual Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge witnessed unprecedented participation this year, with over 11,000 students from 50 countries competing. This event is recognized as the world’s largest university investing competition and allows students to engage with real market scenarios utilizing the Bloomberg Terminal, a valuable tool for finance professionals globally.

Competition Highlights


The competition, which spanned five weeks, included more than 2,600 student teams. Participants were tasked with maximizing returns on a virtual $1 million portfolio. Their performance was evaluated based on a time-weighted relative return compared to the Bloomberg World Large, Mid, Small Cap Price Return Index (WLS Index).

Grand Prize Winner


An all-woman team from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) claimed the prestigious Grand Prize by achieving a stunning return of over 400%, boosting their virtual portfolio to $4.1 million. Led by Captain Shierina Sayogo, the team, known as “Bear Bull,” operated under the guidance of Professor Haynes Yung. The team members included Gracia Aubrey Perdana, Marvelia Claresa Tjen, and Cherish Anastasia Nicolaus.

Shierina Sayogo remarked, _“Winning the 2025 Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge was an unforgettable experience for our team. We executed a disciplined strategy with daily monitoring, which honed our analytical skills and highlighted the importance of market experience for our careers in finance.”_

Professor Yung praised the team’s discipline and the practical integration of business finance knowledge, adding that the challenge significantly enriches CUHK’s finance curriculum by bridging theory with real-market execution.

Participating Institutions


CUHK was among 396 universities worldwide that took part in this engaging competition. Altogether, students executed over 72,000 virtual trades, supported by Bloomberg employees and faculty advisors, enhancing their understanding of real-world investment strategies.

Regional winners stood out in various areas, reflecting the broadened participation:

  • - Latin America: Universidad de Lima, Lima, Peru
