Dr. Patricia McGuire Takes Leadership at The Aesthetic Foundation
The Aesthetic Foundation has made headlines with its recent appointment of Dr. Patricia A. McGuire, MD, as their new president. Dr. McGuire, known for her expertise in plastic surgery and dedication to breast cancer patients, is ready to lead the Foundation into an era focused on patient safety and innovative research.
Dr. McGuire's extensive career in aesthetic medicine includes years of active patient care, advocacy for safety standards, and groundbreaking research. Notably, she served as the principal investigator on a pivotal study, addressing systemic symptoms experienced by women with breast implants.
In her welcoming statement, Dr. McGuire expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, "It is an honor to assume the presidency of The Aesthetic Foundation. I look forward to building upon our rich legacy by expanding our commitment to patient safety, advancing transformative research, and enhancing the lives of patients through compassionate support and innovation."
One of Dr. McGuire's key initiatives includes the Breast Cancer Journey Assistance Fund, established in 2023. This fund aims to alleviate the financial burdens that breast cancer patients often face, covering costs that insurance frequently does not, such as medications, transportation for chemotherapy, post-surgical garments, and wigs. To date, it has provided essential support to 118 patients, making a significant impact on their recovery journeys.
Further enhancing patient support is the American Registry for Implant Surveillance (ARISE), a vital initiative driven by Dr. McGuire. This comprehensive registry offers an efficient way for surgeons to track breast implants digitally using the Aesthetic One app, ensuring that patient outcomes are monitored effectively.
To sustain these beneficial programs and support continued research, The Aesthetic Foundation is introducing a new donor recognition program at The Aesthetic MEET 2025 in Austin. The program will offer several levels of recognition based on donor contributions:
1.
President's Circle: For contributions of $50,000 or more, donors receive special recognition and a certificate.
2.
Champion's League: For annual donations of $10,000+, top donors will be recognized for supporting critical initiatives.
3.
Beyond Club: Donors can double their contributions with an additional gift of $200+ within a year.
4.
Foundation Member: Join for an annual fee of $200, providing ongoing support to the Foundation.
Dr. McGuire invites members of The Aesthetic Society, colleagues, patients, and supporters to engage in these important endeavors. "Together, we can achieve meaningful, lasting change in aesthetic medicine," she emphasized. "Every donation plays a crucial role in bolstering our capacity to assist patients and advance research and safety initiatives."
Founded over three decades ago, The Aesthetic Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on improving the effectiveness and safety of aesthetic surgery and medicine. Its funding comes exclusively from dues paid by member plastic surgeons and generous donations. As it embarks on this new chapter under Dr. McGuire's leadership, the Foundation continues to strive for excellence in patient care, research funding, and educational outreach, paving the way for advancements in the world of aesthetic medicine and surgery.
