The concept of "Half-Farming, Half-Tech" is introduced by Professor Ryota Koyama from Fukushima University and redefines the traditional model of simultaneous agricultural and other types of work. This innovative approach allows individuals to engage in agricultural activities while pursuing careers as AI engineers or digital specialists.

During the busy farming season (spring to autumn), individuals will focus 70% of their efforts on agriculture and 30% on tech roles. Conversely, in the off-season (winter), they will allocate 30% to farming and 70% to high-earning digital tasks like AI implementation and data analysis. This flexible working structure has the potential to bridge the income gap, allowing simultaneous earnings from both agriculture and technology, ultimately aiming for an annual income of 10 million yen.

Collaborations with ORENDA WORLD



To materialize the "Half-Farming, Half-Tech" concept, Fukushim Agricultural Lab will join forces with ORENDA WORLD to establish a proof-of-concept in the reconstruction support areas of Fukushima. As part of this initiative, the training and employment of "Half-Farming, Half-Tech" candidates (including graduate students and local young farmers) will take place at the data center managed by ORENDA WORLD, facilitating hands-on experience in this hybrid working framework. To accommodate individuals without advanced technical knowledge, reskilling programs will allow them to engage in areas such as application development and business transformation through Generative AI technologies.

Furthermore, the partnership will employ "Sovereign AI"—a secure environment from ORENDA WORLD—to manage sensitive agricultural data, ensuring that critical information remains safe within Japan's closed networks.
