Wpc.'s Initiative to Transform Students' Commute into a Safe and Enjoyable Journey

Creating Safer Routes for Students

In an effort to counter the alarming rise in heat-related risks for students, Wpc. (World Party Corporation), headquartered in Osaka, is launching an innovative initiative designed to transform dangerous commuting paths into safe and enjoyable routes. With support from Tokyo University of Agriculture High School and Middle School, the project titled "#Sunshade is Love—Let’s Protect Students’ Commute with Sunshades!" will take place on June 15, 2026.

Addressing Rising Heat Risks

As extreme heat hazards have become a new norm, the Japan Meteorological Agency has even introduced terms like "intense heat days" to describe temperatures soaring above 40°C. In this context, ensuring students’ safety against heatstroke during their daily commute has emerged as a significant challenge. Wpc. aims to initiate proactive discussions with students, providing them a platform to collaborate and create solutions for a safer way to school.

Beyond Just Umbrellas: A New Approach to Heatstroke Prevention

This program goes beyond utilizing sunshades simply as tools. On the event day, Akiko Ishigure, a meteorologist and a disaster prevention specialist, will join as a lecturer. She will engage with students to enlighten them on the dangers of heatstroke from both meteorological and disaster prevention perspectives. By imparting essential knowledge, Wpc. looks to empower students to prioritize their safety.

Changing Perceptions through Creative Workshops

The latter part of the program will focus on reshaping existing stereotypes about sunshades. Many common thoughts, such as “It’s unnecessary to use sunshades since things won’t change” or “Only older women use them,” will be challenged. During this workshop, students are encouraged to brainstorm new names and catchy slogans that resonate with their generation, fostering a desire to use sunshades. The aim is to stimulate a positive behavioral change through the power of language.

At the end of the session, participating students will be appointed as presenters to promote sunshade safety. Wpc. will provide sunshades to encourage students to protect themselves not only on their commutes but in everyday situations.
